NORFOLK, VA, August 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) Freedom Marathon, Inc. (FMI) will host the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon Cup Challenge. The event is part of the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon taking place Veterans Day weekend in Norfolk, VA. Runners will begin the challenge at 7 a.m on Waterside Drive in Norfolk.
The Cup Challenge is comprised of four categories: Military Cup Challenge, Organizational Cup Challenge, Collegiate Cup Challenge and the High School Cup Challenge. Each team must have at least five participants and all Active Duty service members must show their military ID. A Perpetual Cup Trophy will be awarded to the top team in each category.
"We hope to involve more team support for our weekend races through this Cup Challenge event," said Freedom Marathon, Inc., CEO and Founder, Manny Cordero. "The Cup Challenge provides registered teams with an opportunity to compete for trophies while supporting the men and women that have worn the uniform of our Armed Services," said Cordero.
Freedom Marathon, Inc. and the City of Norfolk partnered to sponsor the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon events for the next five years. FMI will host a half marathon in 2011 followed by full marathons in the subsequent years.
