Background information
As of April 22, 2010, the EPA required that contractors become lead-safe certified. This includes professionals such as renovators, electricians, HVAC specialists, plumbers, painters and maintenance staff who disrupt more than six square interior feet of space in pre-1978 homes, or two square feet if a HUD job, or 20 square feet of exterior on all target housing. There are approximately 7 million contractors working across the United States that have yet to be trained under the EPA/HUD Renovate, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule. Firms performing this type of work must be certified under the new rule or face fines of up to up to $37,500 per day for each violation.

In pregnant women lead paint dust can be harmful to the developing fetus; in children exposure can cause lower intelligence, behavior problems and learning disabilities. Adults exposed to lead paint dust may experience high blood pressure, hypertension, as well as kidney ailments.

In Missouri, the EPA estimates there are 1,327,626 housing units with lead-based paint. While any housing built prior to 1978 may be considered suspect, in Missouri an estimated 60% of dwellings built between 1960 and 1978 contain lead-based paint, with that number jumping to 80% for dwellings built between 1940-1959 and as high as 90% for pre-1949 dwellings.

Environ-Tech, LLC aims to provide accessible RRP training for contractors and renovators working in pre-1978 built homes, childcare facilities, and schools in Missouri and Illinois in compliance with EPA regulations at a competitive rate.

Environ-Tech is an EPA-approved training provider for lead-safe renovation, repair & painting (RRP) in the state of Missouri and nationwide.
