Dentist in Warrenton Encourages Patients to Take Charge of Their Oral Health this Fall Season

Drs. Yung and Jelinek inform patients of the importance of maintaining proper dental hygiene this season.

2011-10-06
WARRENTON, VA, October 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Drs. Yung and Jelinek, experienced dentists in Warrenton, urges patients to take charge of their smiles this October for National Dental Hygiene Month. Every October, Drs. Yung and Jelinek join dental professionals across the country to promote the importance of dental hygiene and the connection between a healthy, balanced diet, and good oral health.

"Occasionally eating candy is ok as long as you follow it up by brushing your teeth. Problems arise when patients allow the sugar from candy to stay on their teeth over time, which then can attack the tooth enamel. This is why October is National Dental Hygiene Month, as we often consume more candy than we do regularly," said Dr. James Jelinek, Warrenton dentist.

While candy alone is not necessarily harmful to teeth, sugar consumption, types of treats, and a patient's dental hygiene routine can protect their sweet tooth. Frequently eating chocolates, candy, and other sweets can create an ideal environment for decay causing bacteria. The bacteria can then lead to toothaches, sensitivity, and cavities.

Candy that is sticky or hard tend to remain in the mouth for a longer period of time and can be more harmful than softer candy such as chocolate which washes away easier with saliva. Choosing treats that are sugar free or non-candy treats such as stickers and toys are better choices for dental health.

With advancements in dentistry, protecting a patient's teeth from decay causing bacteria and cavities has become much easier. Sealants, fluoride treatments and regular cleanings can all minimize bacteria and decay. Drs. Yung and Jelinek, Warrenton family dentists, encourage patients to maintain routine visits to their office, in addition to proper brushing and flossing to stop decay in its tracks. By promoting proper dental hygiene throughout the month of October, as well as every other day of the year, Drs. Yung and Jelinek provide further proof of their commitment to providing patients with optimal dental health care.

They found that by 2007, 69 million Americans – nearly one in four – had to travel farther to the nearest trauma center than they traveled in 2001. Most affected by the closures ...
