CRAMLINGTON, ENGLAND, December 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Timeshare and fractional companies planning to enter the Perspective Magazine Awards Program, sponsored by Holiday Systems International, only have until the end of this week to submit their entries and become part of the most comprehensive, global awards program of its kind in the industry. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Global Networking Expo, GNEX 2012 - A Global Meeting of Minds, in Cancun, Mexico.
Perspective Magazine ( http://perspectivemagazine.com ) created the awards program, with its exclusive online voting system, to allow companies from around the world to vie for the global recognition that comes from the largest, most widely read independent information provider in the timeshare and fractional industry.
After the close of nominations, entries will be posted on the GNEX 2012 conference section of the Perspective Magazine website at http://perspectivemagazine.com/gnex and online voting will begin during the first week of January, 2012. Once the nominations go live on the website, an announcement will be made through the company's website and social media platforms and industry professionals will be asked to register an account on the website to maintain the credibility and accountability of the process. Once registered, voters can review the nominations and vote for their favorite company or individual.
Voting will take place for three weeks in January, with online votes to be combined with the decisions of a select panel of judges to determine the winners. Those winners will be announced the evening of February 2nd during a marvelous Gala dinner, at the Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, to conclude GNEX 2012.
Categories will include the always desirable awards of "Best Timeshare Resort" and "Best Fractional Resort", with additional classifications covering areas such as management companies, marketing programs, legal services, financial services, design and media awards. New categories have been added such as an expansion of the "Best Developer Partner" category to include nominees from companies with more than 50 employees and also less than 50 employees. Individual awards have been included for sales and marketing professionals, entrepreneurs and the "Best Industry Leader".
GNEX 2012, slated for January 31st - February 2nd, 2012, at the fabulous Ritz Carlton Cancun in Cancun, Mexico, will discuss the industry from a global viewpoint as resort professionals gather for the first industry event of the year to create business opportunities and develop strategic partnerships. Innovative networking events will be combined with interactive panel discussions and presentations to foster open, and sometimes controversial, discussion on the state of the vacation ownership industry. A networking lounge will be available to give attendees valuable opportunities to conduct business and delegates will also have access to all nightly social events included in their registration in addition to the Perspective Magazine Awards Gala dinner.

Innovative new strategy to treat Parkinson's disease
2011-12-19
Stabilizing the cell's power-generating center protects against Parkinson's disease (PD) in a rat model, according to a report published online this week in the Journal of Experimental Medicine (www.jem.org).
Mitochondria—the energy production center of cells—are damaged in PD, leading to loss of dopaminergic neurons and degeneration of brain function. Taking advantage of the fact that viruses often stabilize mitochondria in order to ensure survival of the cells they infect, a team led by John Sinclair and Roger Barker at the University of Cambridge injected a viral ...

Physician notifications improve postfracture care for patients
2011-12-19
A simple physician notification system can help prevent further fractures in osteoporotic patients who have had already had fractures, according to a study in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).
Patients who have had a major fracture because of osteoporosis do not undergo testing for bone mineral density or receive medications to help prevent additional fractures. Recent 2010 Canadian clinical practice guidelines for osteoporosis care noted this "care gap" for patients at risk of additional fractures.

Stanford study finds IPS cells match embryonic stem cells in modeling human disease
2011-12-19
STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford University School of Medicine investigators have shown that iPS cells, viewed as a possible alternative to human embryonic stem cells, can mirror the defining defects of a genetic condition — in this instance, Marfan syndrome — as well as embryonic stem cells can. An immediate implication is that iPS cells could be used to examine the molecular aspects of Marfan on a personalized basis. Embryonic stem cells, on the other hand, can't do this because their genetic contents are those of the donated embryo, not the patient's.

Stop the violence and play hockey
2011-12-19
The tradition of fighting in hockey should be stopped, as research shows that repeated head trauma causes severe and progressive brain damage, states an editorial in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).
"The tragic story of Sidney Crosby's layoff due to concussions has not been sufficient for society to hang its head in shame and stop violent play immediately," writes Dr. Rajendra Kale, a neurologist and Interim Editor-in-Chief, CMAJ.
A growing body of research on both hockey players and boxers indicates clearly that blows to the head cause irreversible damage, ...
Georgetown researchers lead discovery expected to significantly change biomedical research
2011-12-19
WASHINGTON, D.C.-- In a major step that could revolutionize biomedical research, scientists have discovered a way to keep normal cells as well as tumor cells taken from an individual cancer patient alive in the laboratory — which previously had not been possible. Normal cells usually die in the lab after dividing only a few times, and many common cancers will not grow, unaltered, outside of the body.
This new technique, described today online in the American Journal of Pathology, could be the critical advance that ushers in a new era of personalized cancer medicine, and ...
