CORAL GABLES, FL, August 18, 2010 (Press-News.org) Coral Gables, 'The City Beautiful', is inviting seniors to add to its beauty. The city's Park and Recreation Department and Senior Citizen Advisory Committee are currently seeking entries for the 4th annual Senior Citizen Art Show, "Celebration of Talent".
The competition is open to Coral Gables residents, age 55 and over.
This year's "Celebration of Talent" will have two divisions. The first is a professional division consisting of artists who sell their works. The other division is a non-professional section for artists who do not sell their art, but simply enjoy its creation.
"There's been a tremendous show of support and interest from the Coral Gables community," said Carol Brock, chairperson of the Senior Board. "This year we wanted to showcase all our seniors' talents—both professionals and nonprofessionals."
Entries are being accepted in the following categories: photography (8 inches by 10 inches minimum); paintings and drawings; hard crafts such as sculpture, ceramics and woodworking; and soft crafts including needlework, quilting and weaving for both divisions.
No entry fees are required and interested artists may submit up to four entries. Prize-winning submissions from previous years' shows are not eligible for re-entry. Entry forms must be received by October 1, 2010.
A group exhibit of the artwork will be on display at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive, Coral Gables, on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13. The Friday evening opening reception and the Saturday showing will be hosted by The Palace Management Group, one of South Florida's leading companies specializing in senior housing and care.
Over 100 entries—representing over 40 artists—were featured in last year's "Celebration of Talent". The grand prize winning work was a hard crafts piece by Maria Gonzalez called "American Pride".
For more information or to obtain an entry form, please contact Anastasia Smith at 305-460-5609 or e-mail ASmith@CoralGables.com.
