Accell Introduces MHL Cable for Mobile to DTV Connectivity at CES 2012

Accell's MHL cable connects an MHL-enabled Smartphone or tablet to any MHL-enabled HDTV to display games, videos, movies and more

2012-01-05
LAS VEGAS, NV, January 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Accell, a provider of premium audio/video and computer accessories, today announced the company will be exhibiting its new MHL cable at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show from Jan. 10-13, 2012, in booth #21848. Accell's MHL cable provides a direct connection from MHL-enabled mobile devices to MHL-enabled HDTVs, so consumers can view and share high-definition (HD) content.

MHL technology is a rapidly growing HD audio/video connectivity standard that enables a mobile device with MHL technology to deliver 1080p uncompressed video with up to eight channels of digital audio. MHL-enabled HDTVs and displays also provide power back to the mobile device when connected, ensuring that the phone battery is charged and ready to use.

"With the Smartphone and tablet market growing at a rapid rate, Accell has established itself as a market leader by engineering first-to-market products, such as our latest cable for MHL technology," stated Michael Weizer, director of marketing, Accell.

MHL cable product features:
• Transmits HD video up to 1080p and 7.1 surround sound audio with no latency, which makes it ideal for gaming
• Supports continuous charging of the mobile device when connected
• Supports the MHL feature of controlling the connected device with the TV remote

"Since the release of our specification in June of last year, it's been great to see the steady release of MHL-enabled products entering the market, including the first MHL-enabled HDTVs," said Tim Wong, president, MHL, LLC. "Accessories such as Accell's MHL cable allow consumers to connect their new MHL-enabled Smartphones directly to an MHL-enabled TV without the need for any other power cords or adapters. You can then interact with your favorite games, photos, movies and more on the big screen."

The MHL cable is the third product released by Accell for MHL-enabled displays and devices. Other products include an MHL-to-HDMI adapter and an MHL-to-HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable.

Nap-deprived tots may be missing out on more than sleep, says University of Colorado-led study
2012-01-05
A new study led by the University of Colorado Boulder could be a wake-up call for parents of toddlers: Daytime naps for your kids may be more important than you think. The study shows toddlers between 2 and a half and 3 years old who miss only a single daily nap show more anxiety, less joy and interest and a poorer understanding of how to solve problems, said CU-Boulder Assistant Professor Monique LeBourgeois, who led the study. The results indicate insufficient sleep alters the facial expressions of toddlers -- exciting events are responded to less positively and frustrating ...

Songbird brain synapses and glial cells capable of synthesizing estrogen

2012-01-05
Colin Saldanha, a biology professor at American University in Washington, D.C., has always been intrigued by the hormone estrogen. Specifically, how the hormone that does so much (for example, it promotes sexual behavior in women but can also increase susceptibility to seizures) does not cause major cross circuit meltdowns. "In the extreme case, once every 28 days, women should be having seizures—and when they do, it's a condition called Catamenial Epilepsy—but that's obviously not the norm and there's the mystery," Saldanha said.
