Ventana Research Releases Benchmark Research and Education on Business Analytics in Technology Sector
2012-02-16
SAN RAMON, CA, February 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) New benchmark research from Ventana Research finds that just 15 percent of technology businesses have the highest Innovative level of maturity in their use of analytics, despite being part of the industry that has the more direct knowledge of the technology to advance people, process and information readiness in an organization.

With business people in the technology sector under increasing pressure to operate more efficiently and make better decisions, it is important they comprehend the full potential of business analytics and how to best take advantage of them. This new benchmark research from Ventana Research, the leading business technology research firm, presents comprehensive, research-based information on technology organizations' attitudes towards business analytics.

The research found that about half (49 percent) of technology companies are satisfied with the process currently used to create analytics while 38 percent are not satisfied with it. The top three issues companies identified are finding processes too slow, hard to build and maintain, and yielding information that is not actionable. Regarding the current technology for creating and applying analytics, less than half (48 percent) are satisfied and with a significant dependence on spreadsheets in 85 percent of organizations, it should be no surprise over a third (38 percent) will be making changes to their analytics in the next 12 to 18 months.

"This research finds that spreadsheets are used regularly by most organizations and that organizations are spending almost two thirds of their time in data related tasks compared to analytic ones," said Mark Smith, CEO and Chief Research Officer of Ventana Research. "These two key findings along with other factors show a bleak outlook for the technology sector. This sector has the capabilities to set the standards for effectively utilizing business analytics across all industries."

This in-depth benchmark research on business analytics the technology sector assessed the maturity and direction of organizations' efforts around the world. Ventana Research undertook this research to acquire real-world information about maturity, trends and best practices in how they use analytics and key indicators. It explores how they do this now, how they view their existing processes and tools, plans they have to change or improve them, and the benefit they hope to gain by doing so.

SaaS ITSM Solutions See Rapid Growth

2012-02-16
One of the biggest reasons businesses should consider SaaS based Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) solutions is simply because they are cheaper to run, maintain and purchase. ORNL explores proteins in Yellowstone bacteria for biofuel inspiration

2012-02-16
Studies of bacteria first found in Yellowstone's hot springs are furthering efforts at the Department of Energy's BioEnergy Science Center toward commercially viable ethanol production from crops such as switchgrass. The current production of ethanol relies on the use of expensive enzymes that break down complex plant materials to yield sugars that are fermented into ethanol. One suggested cheaper alternative is consolidated bioprocessing, a streamlined process that uses microorganisms to break down the resistant biomass. "Consolidated bioprocessing is like a one-pot ...

Using a technique called "DNA barcoding" at the Museum's Sackler Institute for Comparative Genomics, researchers identified the species and life cycles of the parasitic worms to determine whether the food's preparation violated Jewish dietary laws. The results, which were recently published online in the Journal ...

Different bodies, different minds

2012-02-16
We like to think of ourselves as rational creatures, absorbing information, weighing it carefully, and making thoughtful decisions. But, as it turns out, we're kidding ourselves. Over the past few decades, scientists have shown there are many different internal and external factors influencing how we think, feel, communicate, and make decisions at any given moment. One particularly powerful influence may be our own bodies, according to new research reviewed in the December issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological ...
