Mobisante Receives Silver Award for 2012 Outstanding Innovation in Medical Devices by Seattle Business Magazine

World's first FDA approved smartphone based ultrasound device - MobiUS SP1 receives Silver Award for outstanding innovation in medical devices.

2012-02-29
SEATTLE, WA, February 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Mobisante, a Seattle-based medical device start-up, received the Silver Award for 2012 Outstanding Innovation in Medical Devices, for its breakthrough innovation - a smartphone based ultrasound device: MobiUSSP1. The award was presented by Seattle Business Magazine as part of its 2012 Leaders in Healthcare Awards that aim to recognize the individuals and organizations leading the charge in Washington's world-class health care industry and celebrate their excellent patient care, outstanding leadership and thoughtful innovation.

The MobiUSSP1 ultrasound system, the first smartphone-based diagnostic device to be cleared by the FDA, brings ultrasound imaging within reach of healthcare professionals everywhere. MobiUS fuses the power and wireless connectivity of a smartphone with the Internet into a diagnostic solution that is mobile, accessible, and connected, helping healthcare professionals practice better medicine and reduce costs.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sailesh Chutani, Chief Executive Officer, Mobisante, said, "We recognized the fact that there will never be enough hospitals or doctors to provide health care to everyone who needs it. In order to increase access without increasing costs, more care needs to move out of expensive settings such as hospitals, to clinics, and eventually to rural areas where imaging is not available. For this to come about a new class of diagnostic devices have to exist. They would need to be simple, robust, inexpensive, and designed for point-of-care use. That led to the development of MobiUSSP1 system"

"We are very excited with the response that we have been getting for our innovative device since its launch in October 2011. And today this recognition from the Washington business community further reinforces our commitment to make MobiUSSP1 ultrasound system available across the world, " Mr. Chutani further added.

MobiUS Systems are:

Mobile - fits in your pocket and can be taken to the patient
Accessible - all qualified professionals can easily operate them
Connected - the ultrasound images can be easily and securely shared for archival, second opinion, or remote diagnosis using a cellular or Wi-Fi network
Affordable - clinics and medical professionals in resource-limited settings can afford them

Smartphones can be charged almost anywhere, which ensures that MobiUS devices can operate independent of the electrical grid, making them an ideal choice for disaster relief organizations and mobile and pre-hospital medical professionals. In addition, the images can be easily stored in a cloud-based-PACS system.

Head Injuries Cause Long-Terms Setbacks for Children, Studies Show Although conventional wisdom is that young children are highly resilient when it comes to recovering from serious injuries, recent research suggests that this may not be the case where traumatic brain injuries are concerned. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines traumatic brain injury, or TBI, as a bump or blow to the head that disrupts normal brain functioning, with consequences that range from a mild concussion to severe, long-term disability. Pending Legislation Could Eliminate Michigan No-Fault System Michigan drivers injured in car accidents have the best medical coverage in the country, thanks to a state law that provides unlimited lifetime medical and rehabilitation benefits to people who properly insure their vehicles. All of this could change, however, if state lawmakers approve a controversial overhaul of the state's no-fault insurance laws. The proposed law, which has been stalled in the legislature since October, would put an end to the state's unlimited no-fault benefit. While proponents of the ...

Heavy Truck Loads Put Marylanders at Risk

Heavy Truck Loads Put Marylanders at Risk Large trucks are an essential component of the U.S economy. The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics estimates that large trucks (weighing more than 10,000 pounds) carry three-fourths of the value of all goods shipped in the U.S and two-thirds of the weight. This vast amount of cargo comes with a cost; the drive for more efficient shipping has increased the weight of these trucks to dangerous levels.
