SARASOTA, FL, March 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) Cafe Baci announces a night of 'Classical Neapolitan Songs' at its restaurant in Sarasota, FL. On Tuesday, March 27, 2012, internationally-renowned tenor, Joseph Spinella will be the featured artist to celebrate National Joe Day.
The origins of this holiday are rather murky, but the gist is that everyone can call themselves 'Joe' on this day. If you don't like your first name, you can call yourself Joe. Although if you are already named Joe, well you just have to be grateful your parents didn't name you 'Rutabaga.'
In honor of this occasion, a real Joe will be singing classic, Italian favorites, such as Rondine al Nido and O Sole Mio. Accompanied by versatile pianist, Andrew Lapp, the lively entertainment is a crowd-pleaser. Of course, many in the family will be tempted to sing along. Not to worry, audience participation is encouraged.
A native of Sarasota, Spinella was awarded a scholarship to Manhattan School of Music in New York City. While in school, he was discovered by Paul Nadler, one of the Metropolitan Opera conductors and was invited to work with Metropolitan Opera coaches in NYC. This began his regular sessions with Joan Dorneman, who was also Luciano Pavarotti's vocal coach for thirty years.
Spinella has participated in Master Classes with Birgit Nielsen, Eleanor Steber, and Regina Resnik. His tenor voice quality was described by Princeton's weekly newspaper, Town Topics, as "a solid Metropolitan Opera level performer."
His current album, Spinella Tenor of Illusions, is available on Amazon.com and has been featured on various radio stations in the U.S. The album features poperatic arias and traditional music that exemplifies classic Neapolitan songs. Backed by the Macedonian Radio Symphony Orchestra, this all-Italian album contains 13 songs and displays Spinella's mastery of bell'arte del canto.
"Spinella's voice reminds us of the great tenors like Caruso, Lanza and Pavarotti. The expressive tenor voice and delivery of these songs, by Spinella, demonstrates to us why they remain classics," reports World Book and News.
Cafe Baci is located at 4001 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231. Reservations are required as seating is limited (941) 921-4848.
Spinella Tenor of Illusions, is managed by Pava Nella Entertainment, whose mission is to deliver quality entertainment through music and magic to our customers and fans. Mayo Clinic researchers building melanoma vaccine to combat skin cancer
2012-03-20
ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Mayo Clinic researchers have trained mouse immune systems to eradicate skin cancer from within, using a genetic combination of human DNA from melanoma cells and a cousin of the rabies virus. The strategy, called cancer immunotherapy, uses a genetically engineered version of the vesicular stomatitis virus to deliver a broad spectrum of genes derived from melanoma cancer cells directly into tumors. In early studies, 60 percent of tumor-burdened mice were cured in fewer than three months and with minimal side effects. Results of the latest study appear ...

UC research tests new tool to guide reintroduction of the American chestnut
2012-03-20
The death of the American Chestnut due to an Asian bark fungus accidentally introduced to the United States had profound environmental and economic consequences since the tree was highly valued for its strong, workable lumber and a variety of wildlife from deer to birds to bears relied upon the chestnut for food.
Ongoing efforts to reintroduce the American Chestnut are labor intensive and expensive, in part because they rely on genetic cross breeding to produce a tree that is – genetically speaking – primarily an American Chestnut but endowed with the Chinese Chestnut ...

A new tool to reveal structure of proteins
2012-03-20
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A new method to reveal the structure of proteins could help researchers understand biological molecules – both those involved in causing disease and those performing critical functions in healthy cells.
For roughly a decade, a technique called solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has allowed researchers to detect the arrangements of atoms in proteins that defy study by traditional laboratory tools such as X-ray crystallography. But translating solid state NMR data into an actual 3D protein structures has always been difficult.
