ST. LOUIS, MO, March 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) St. Louis, Mo. - As home values remain stagnant, many older adults are opting to age gracefully in the confines of their own home. According to the Association of American Retired Persons, 78% of adults between the ages of 50 and 64 claim that they would prefer to stay in their current home as they grow older.
As more and more seniors inquire about home remodeling alternatives, Bill Riggs of Riggs Construction & Design, saw an opportunity to serve this growing population and further his knowledge of senior living and the obstacles they face in their homes. He recently became the second member of the Riggs team to receive their CAPS (Certified Aging in Place) designation from the NAHB. This certification furthers Riggs' commitment to serving area seniors, helping them remain safe and secure in their homes.
The purpose of the NAHB course is to educate the home remodeling industry on not only the benefits of aging in place, but how they can better accommodate older Americans. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, Riggs Construction & Design, a Kirkwood design-build remodeling firm, will be able to identify the daily issues many older adults face in their home and devise a comprehensive plan that will not only keep them safe and happy, but increase the overall value of their home.
According to the United States Census, by the year 2020 we will see the population of people 60 and over increase by 71 percent.
"It is our mission to not only offer superior design solutions, but create a comfortable, safe living environment for the older adults in our community," said Bill Riggs, Vice President of Riggs Construction & Design. "Our company was founded on the principle of serving others and with my CAPS certification we pledge to continue this mission."
