Corrado Maggi Paints Portraits of Life at Agora Gallery

Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Italian artist, Corrado Maggi in Altered States of Reality: an Exhibition of Analog and Digital Photography.

2012-04-24
NEW YORK, NY, April 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) With a sharp eye for the crisp, the pristine and the exquisite, Italian photographer Corrado Maggi delicately and expertly shoots ephemeral moments of beauty in everyday life. A self-taught artist, Maggi gained his artistry through organic, passionate study of the world around him, as well as by learning from the example of professional photographers. "I love art in general and the observation, the study of photographs of the great photographers of the past," he says.

Through his works, he seeks to temper the fervor of his soul with the meticulousness of his rational self. The result is that the viewer is taken on a voyage through the fluctuation and tenacity of the human imagination. Vivacious, saturated colors are boldly met by velvety blacks and whites, and tell a story that is at once tangibly human and poignantly whimsical. Maggi is avidly dedicated to continued observation of life and master photographers, a fact which shows through his evocative glimpses into resonance and which inspires his marvelously appealing images.

Unusual protein helps regulate key cell communication pathway

Unusual protein helps regulate key cell communication pathway
2012-04-24
Tiny pores, or channels, embedded in cell membranes are critical to the healthy functioning of cells. Charged atoms, or ions, move through these channels to generate the electrical signals that allow cells to communicate with one another. New research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis unveils some of the inner workings of certain channels involved in regulating electrical signals in nerve cells, relaxing muscle cells and "tuning" hair cells in the inner ear. In a report published April 22 in the advance online edition of the journal Nature, the ...

2012-04-24
One of the greatest mysterious in cellular biology has been given a new twist thanks to findings reported in Science. Researchers at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute show that prions, proteins that transmit heritable information without DNA or RNA, can contribute to drug resistance and cellular adaptation. Their discovery of a yeast prion with these properties demonstrates the active role of the prion conversion in cellular fitness adaptation, providing new insights into the potentially broader function of prions in living organisms. Since their discovery in the 1960s, ...

Carlos Martino, an assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, is interested in understanding how these magnetic-field fluctuations change biochemical reactions inside us. Martino explains that the subject is controversial. "Our research shows that exposure to different types of magnetic fields affect biological response," he says. "More importantly, the exposure levels are well below the standard levels" approved by the World ...
