COQUITLAM, BC, September 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) "We want to make Google the third half of your brain." - SERGEY BRIN, Google's co-founder, on a new Internet search product.
Every day we read about new developments in technology. Every hour there's a new iPhone or Blackberry everyone (including President Obama) has to have; cell phones get tinier and more sophisticated; doctors in wealthy hospitals cure in 20 minutes what in other ages would have meant death.
And machines are entwined in our lives in ways previously undreamed of. What company could now go back to paper & pen, or shut down their website? In fact, it's just the opposite now--who hasn't been on hold, even with the local phone company, & been told, in a recorded message, that it would be faster to look for help on their website?
We live in an age where the human is beginning to blend with the digital.
One of the world's most famous experts on this topic, Dr Solez of the University of Alberta, recently said, "For sure, there is no shortage of food for thought. In my own academic work, I have seen student papers go from library driven to google driven; that is, what used to happen at the library now happens on the laptop. This is by no means an entirely bad thing, of course--but are we ready to let Google do 1/3 of our thinking?"
"What people have to understand that change, when handled properly, is good. The day has arrived with computers being inserted into the body to help us live, to see, to hear and breathe, you name it. I don't think Mr Brin literally means that someday a company called Google will be part of our brain. But that a search engine will help us see the world differently: no question," says Solez.
