IREM Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 Achieves Five Star Status for Fifth Consecutive Year

Local chapter recognized for providing valuable services and programs to members

2012-05-04
RALEIGH, NC, May 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has again received high honors in IREM's Chapter Star Recognition Program. The Chapter was formally recognized for achieving Five Star Status at the IREM Awards Event and Dinner at this year's Leadership and Legislative Summit held on April 16th in Washington, DC.

IREM Chapter 105, which serves the greater Raleigh and Durham area, was recognized for a variety of initiatives it undertook in 2011, while under the leadership of Chapter Immediate Past President, Jason Stowe, CPM. Stowe has the unique distinction of having served as the Chapter's president twice.

The Chapter Star Recognition Program recognizes IREM chapters for providing valuable member services and programs. The program awards points for specific activities based on criteria that define effective, successful chapters—some activities are required, others are elective. Then, based on total points earned, chapters can achieve Three, Four, or Five Star Status. This is the fifth consecutive year that Chapter 105 has been awarded Five Star Status.

During the last year, the chapter was able to achieve several milestones. Most notably, the organization held a successful "Who Is IREM" January meeting with National President Ron Goss, CPM , presented a profitable HRS402 educational offering, attended the Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. where Chapter officers met with Senators and Congressmen to discuss legislative issues, sent five attendees to the San Diego Leadership Conference, and donated $500 for Urban Ministries of Wake County from the chapter's President's Cup Challenge Golf Tournament.

"Although economic instability continues to be concern for all industries, we were truly able to connect with our members and sponsors and end 2011 with positive cash flow," says Stowe. "Looking back on 2011, I am most proud of the team that I had around me. Working with the best professionals in IREM made being President an easy job. Also, we don't say it enough, but in my opinion, our IREM Association Executive, Candi McDowell, is the reason we are a Five-Star Chapter year after year. We have an incredible support structure, and I'm confident that more Five-Star Awards await us."

Yellow Jacket Season has Arrived with Warm Weather in Sacramento

2012-05-04
Local pest control company, Specialized Pest Patrol, has reported numerous phone calls from homeowners who don't feel safe with the do-it-yourself solution of yellow jacket nest removal. If one yellow jacket stings you, the sting gives off pheromones which can create a chain reaction causing the entire colony to come after you," warns Rob Smith, part of the father-son team of Specialized Pest Patrol. While flying insects overall are harmless, yellow jackets are by far the most troublesome ...

Failure to File a Tax Return: What Happens?

2012-05-04
The Internal Revenue Service requires that anyone receiving income from any source must file a tax return each year, with limited exceptions. If an individual does not file an income tax return, the IRS will file one for them and then send that individual the bill of the taxes owed. At first, this sounds somewhat advantageous to have the service itself prepare and file taxes, but this process has its drawbacks. The IRS prepared-filing is in no way a good substitute for a return a taxpayer prepares and sends personally. These "ghost returns" are based only on ...
