EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, May 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) This week has seen some of the hottest weather of the year all over Scotland and it is expected to get even warmer as the weekend approaches. Temperatures are expected to reach at least 25C (77F).
The other good news is that the weather is expected to last for at least the next 7 days. This has already lead to parts of Scotland being hotter than places such as Morocco and Egypt. After a rather wet and miserable start to the year this is a welcome change for most residents and for tourists.
This begs the question of what you should do to make the most of the record temperatures and sunshine, well Rooms in Scotland has come up with the top 5 things to do to make the most of the sun.
1. Hill Walking - Scotland is well known for its many mountains, with the Highest Mountain the UK (Ben Nevis) among them. Scaling a munro (mountain over 3,000ft or 914.4m) is a popular hobby for many native Scots and it offers the reward of enjoying some fantastic views both during the climb and from the summit. There are 283 munros to choose from but also a great selection of smaller peaks if you don't think you could manage 3,000ft.
2. Visit an Island - There are many Islands throughout the country and they offer some fantastic landscapes and wildlife. The Isle of Skye is particularly good for this with many jagged peaks and tall mountains, it's a fantastic location to enjoy in the sun. Other popular Islands include Arran on the west coast and Orkney to the north west.
3. Do a Walk - There are hundreds of walks around the country which allow people to sample a mix of scenery, small towns and wildlife. Two of the most well-known are the Great Glen Way (Fort William- Inverness) and West Highland Way (Glasgow - Fort William) these are done over several days but there are numerous one day walks around also.
4. Have a game of Golf - The sport that is synonymous with Scotland after being invented here before being given to the rest of the world so they could learn it and beat us! There are no shortage of golf course around the country but for the pros try Carnoustie or St Andrews where you will find championship courses.
5. Have a beer...OUTSIDE - Okay, this is perhaps more for locals, but in the days of sunshine and warmth there is nothing like a beer garden and a sharp cold pint of Tennents to truly enjoy both the weather and the Scottish culture. Just to ensure your Scottishness, have a whiskey too!
Other suggestions that did not make the list included, Try some Irn Bru flavour ice cream (Irn Bru is the national soft drink in Scotland), Visit the Zoo in Edinburgh (the only one in Scotland and don't miss the daily penguin parade or Giant Pandas) and finally visit a castle ruins (Urquhart castle has one of the best views, overlooking Loch Ness).
Whatever you decide to do make sure to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of fluids (that means water not beer) and enjoy it while it lasts. Scotland has a wealth of fantastic scenery and wildlife and when the sun is shining there are few better places to be.

Deep sea animals stowaway on submarines and reach new territory
2012-05-24
Marine scientists studying life around deep-sea vents have discovered that some hardy species can survive the extreme change in pressure that occurs when a research submersible rises to the surface. The team's findings, published in Conservation Biology, reveal how a species can be inadvertently carried by submersibles to new areas, with potentially damaging effects on marine ecosystems.
After using the manned submersible Alvin to collect samples of species from the Juan de Fuca Ridge under the northeastern Pacific Ocean, the team discovered 38 deep-sea limpets ( Lepetodrilus ...

Charlotte divorce lawyer Angela McIlveen of the McIlveen Family Law Firm has noticed a recent increase in the number of same sex couple child custody cases.
When asked about the reason for the increase and the complexities of same sex couple child custody she says "The increase is due to the fact that more same sex couples are choosing to either adopt or conceive a child through in vitro fertilization and hence this leads to child custody issues if the relationship does not work out".
She adds "Determining child custody for same sex couples is more ...
Commonly used pesticide turns honey bees into 'picky eaters'
2012-05-24
Biologists at UC San Diego have discovered that a small dose of a commonly used crop pesticide turns honey bees into "picky eaters" and affects their ability to recruit their nestmates to otherwise good sources of food.
The results of their experiments, detailed in this week's issue of the Journal of Experimental Biology, have implications for what pesticides should be applied to bee-pollinated crops and shed light on one of the main culprits suspected to be behind the recent declines in honey bee colonies.
Since 2006, beekeepers in North America and Europe have lost ...
