Savant Books and Publications LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii, publishers of significant books and enduring media for the 21st century, announces the release of Helen Doan's new autobiographical novel, "On My Behalf."

2012-06-05
HONOLULU, HI, June 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) "On My Behalf" details the misadventures of a naïve Vietnamese girl pursuing her dream of becoming a successful writer. As she navigates through early adulthood, she finds that balancing between staying true to her dreams and settling for an unremarkable life challenges every fiber of her being.

Helen Doan is a Vietnamese-American writer born in Kien Giang, Vietnam. She arrived in San Jose, California in 1986 where she grew up. Doan self-published a book of poetry in 2002 and has been writing feature-length screenplays for ten years, while keeping a journal of her independence. Currently living and working in the county of Los Angeles, Doan aspires to make her mark on both the literary and entertainment worlds.

"This was an important story for me to tell because I know many people are, like me, hypercritical of themselves," says Doan. "'After reading 'On My Behalf,' I hope they will realize it is okay to be exactly who they are."

Artificial muscle as shock absorber

Artificial muscle as shock absorber
2012-06-05
It is not very fun to ride a bicycle on a street plastered with cobblestones. At least the bike has a saddle seat filled with silicone. That lessens the shocks and bumps, and counteracts some of the annoying vibrations. In a professional's eyes, the material in the saddle is an "elastomer" – a material that is yielding and malleable, like a rubber band. Engineers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF in Darmstadt are now working on the next generation: They are designing components made of elastomers that actively respond to unwanted ...

Clarification of unique communication channel with possible role in tumor

2012-06-05
Cells do more than just sit there, one next to the other – they constantly exchange information. It has been shown recently that they communicate via complex messages, wrapped in a small vesicle, and as if it was a letter in an envelope. These vesicles are called exosomes. Exosomes: small communication channels with a possible role in cancer Pre-clinical studies indicate that exosomes might contribute to tumor development, influencing tumor angiogenesis, immune escape and metastasis. As a result one is developing therapeutic anti-tumor strategies, targeting the formation ...

Knowing yeast genome produces better wine

The yeast Dekkera bruxellensis plays an important role in the production of wine, as it can have either a positive or a negative impact on the taste. Researchers at Lund University in Sweden, among others, have analyzed the yeast's genome sequenced by the US Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute, giving wine producers the possibility to take control of the flavour development of the wine. Yeasts are an important ingredient in the production of various types of food, for example wine, and they make a major contribution to the taste. One of these yeasts is Dekkera ...
