New York Construction Accident Lawyer from The Perecman Firm Comments on Pedestrian Safety After Chelsea Scaffold Collapse Breaks Woman's Leg

New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman comments on a Chelsea scaffold that fell on a 72-year old woman. She escaped with only a broken leg despite being hit by falling wood and metal.

NEW YORK, NY, June 11, 2012

A sidewalk shed collapsed on a 72-year old woman while she was walking on W. 23rd St., reported the New York Daily News (6/1/2012). She was hit by falling wood and metal, but escaped the New York scaffold collapse with only a broken leg.

At the time of the New York construction accident, the scaffolding was being dismantled, said the tabloid.

A neighborhood resident said in the tabloid, the workers had set up cones around the area to keep pedestrians away from the site, but the woman walked through it.

"Construction companies have an obligation to ensure that pedestrians are safe. Scaffolds constructed above sidewalks must provide safe passage in New York," said construction accident lawyer Perecman, the New York construction accident lawyer and chairman of the construction accident committee and lecturer on construction accident law for The New York State Trial Lawyers Association.

As New York construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm understand, regardless of how a scaffold accident in New York happens, nearly all are preventable.

"Construction companies should always take the safety of the public into account as much as the safety of construction workers. With strict rules and enforced compliance, construction accident injuries and fatalities can be avoided to a great extent," said Perecman, a New York construction accident lawyer for over 30 years.

Pedestrians or construction workers who have been injured in a scaffold accident may be entitled to compensation. The expert New York construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm have helped many people obtain compensation following New York construction accidents, including construction workers, pedestrians, and others who have been injured due to unsafe scaffolding in a construction zone.
