FRANKLIN, MA, June 27, 2012 (Press-News.org) New England contemporary impressionist painter Bruce Wood is a winner in the landscape painting competition sponsored by the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, The Lyme Art Association, and the Lyme Land Conservation Trust. Two of his oil paintings were selected for inclusion in the exhibition Celebrating Lyme's Beauty, which will show at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London, Connecticut June 1-30 and continue at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, Connecticut, from July 7 - September 3, 2012.
Celebrating Lyme's Beauty is an exhibition of paintings of lovely Clucas Field in Lyme Connecticut. Artists were invited to paint scenes on location in the Clucas field and surrounding woodlands which are maintained by the Lyme Land Conservation Trust.
Bruce Wood's two oil paintings depict scenes which are evocative of the woodlands. The first, titled Edge of Civilization, is a view of hte field from within the woods, looking out through a border of trees and a rock wall. The second painting, Intrusion, shows a hillside rock wall interrupted by the growth of a single tree trunk.
Bruce Wood is no stranger to museum exhibitions. His work has been shown at major venues including the Institute of Contemporary Art in London and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. However, his work has only recently been featured locally. Inclusion in this exhibition is another step toward establishing him as a major New England landscape painter.
