Foundation Provides Funding for Pioneering Childhood Sexual Abuse Initiatives

Childhood sexual abuse is far more prevalent than most people understand.

2012-07-20
PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA, July 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation has initiated funding for several initiatives concerning the prevention of childhood sexual abuse, improving the access to quality care to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and addressing the problem of pedophilia. The Foundation formed in 2008 by Peter S. Pelullo existed long before the Jerry Sandusky Penn State tragedy came to light.

"Childhood sexual abuse is far more prevalent than most people understand. It's a pandemic. The aftermath is devastating and can leave individuals with significant psychological, emotional, and physical disorders that may continue indefinitely if not effectively treated. Recovery can be a lifelong challenge where survivors have trouble living normal lives as they get older," says Peter S. Pelullo.

The Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation is now aligned with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in a common goal of preventing childhood sexual abuse and the harm and suffering it inflicts and improving the treatment for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

With one out of three girls and one out of four boys being sexually violated before the age of 18 it is more than conceivable that there are 60 million plus adult survivors living in the United States today that have experienced this life altering event.

Pellulo, a survivor himself, further states, "We as a society need to start to understand that there are millions of adults that need mental healthcare and while we ask the question why don't children tell an equally important question could be why adults don't tell? The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's research and data will shed light and bring understanding to these millions of survivors."

Pellulo added, "Survivors are not at fault and hope and life are possible once we receive the proper mental healthcare. We must break the silent stigma that we adults carry throughout our lives."

It is a well-known fact that children model the systems and adult behavior that is present in their lives therefore if they see us seek help, it is more likely that they might speak out or at the very least enter recovery long before we did."

To support these initiatives the foundation is raising $3 million, if you would like to contribute please visit www.letgoletpeacecomein.org or send your check to: Let Go Let Peace Come In Foundation, 630 W. Germantown Pike, Suite 180, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.

Peter S. Pelullo lives with his wife Jane and their two sons in the greater Philadelphia area and he is the author of Betrayal and the Beast.
