Nue Products Supports Cruelty-Free International
There are no worldwide regulations to prevent animal testing for cosmetic procedures, Cruelty Free International has announced its initiative to achieve global awareness. Nue Products, a Leaping Bunny certified company, stands behind this movement.
NEW YORK, NY, July 30, 2012
According to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal, there is no existing global ban on cruelty-free cosmetic testing that prevents animal experimentation. Even worse the article states, "Over 80 percent of the world still allows animals to be used in cruel experiments." While some U.S. states have taken measures against animal testing, there is no national legal requirement that prevents manufacturers of cosmetic products from using animals in their testing processes. However, many companies such as Nue Products, maker of a three-step anti-aging system, have already made an effort to abstain from animal testing.Nue Products is part of the Leaping Bunny Program which is enforced by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). CCIC representatives conduct regular and thorough inspections of companies in order to allow them to maintain their Leaping Bunny certification. Although the certification ensures best practices and is internationally recognized, the article explains that Cruelty Free International, a non-profit organization, is making an additional effort to raise awareness and present petitions to create a national and global ban on animal testing.
In a recent press statement, Nue Products commented on the Cruelty Free International Initiative, "This organization has taken a huge leap towards an end to worldwide animal testing. We stand by and applaud their efforts to this end." The article states that as part of their campaign, Cruelty Free International has partnered with major cosmetics company, The Body Shop, to raise awareness.
According to the article, "[A] global pledge will be available at The Body Shop stores in 65 countries. It is the largest and most ambitious campaign ever to seek a global ban on the use of animals to test cosmetics. In addition to engaging with the estimated 275 million people a year who visit The Body Shop stores, Cruelty Free International will also be linking to The Body Shop websites, which host millions of customers annually."
Nue Products responds to this significant contribution stating that sometimes it takes a major brand to raise significant awareness. One spokesperson from the company states, "Bravo to the Body Shop for bringing attention to this ongoing international issue." The company encourages consumers to learn more about the cruel practice of animal testing and to take part of the movement to support legal regulation of a ban on such experimentation.
