NEW YORK, NY, August 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Radiesse is a soft-tissue filler used to reverse some of the symptoms of facial aging, such as hollows under the eyes and nasolabial folds, also called parenthesis lines, around the mouth. It can also be used for face-sculpting purposes. Radiesse is one of the longest-lasting soft tissue fillers available, but uses only biocompatible absorbable materials, so its results are reversible.
What Is Radiesse?
Radiesse is what is known as a composite filler. It is made up of two main components, a smooth carrier gel that carries microspheres into your body. The carrier gel is made of methylcellulose, a common food thickener. The spheres are made out of calcium hydroxylapatite (CHA). CHA has long been used as a bone graft material, so it has a long record of safe use in many situations.
What Radiesse Is Used For
Radiesse can be used to correct many common signs of facial aging, including facial hollows, and facial folds. It can also be used to improve the appearance of sunken cheeks. It can also be used, however, to correct some bone shapes that are considered unattractive, such as a weak chin or low cheek bones. Sometimes Radiesse is the only augmentation used. Other times, it is used as a planning for more permanent changes using facial implants.
Advantages of Radiesse
Radiesse is a nonsurgical procedure, requires no anesthesia and can be performed over a lunch break. The procedure is completely reversible, but the results can be very long-lasting. Most patients see results lasting more than a year, and many see them lasting two years or more.
Disadvantages of Radiesse
Although anesthesia is not necessary, the thicker gel and microspheres combination can cause patients discomfort during injection. It can also lead to significant swelling that may take weeks to resolve. In addition, because the microspheres lead to an irregular shape and contour, Radiesse is generally only suited to injection in deep tissue, and cannot be used where the skin is thin, such as in the lips.
In addition, Radiesse cannot be used to treat dynamic wrinkles that are treated by BOTOX Cosmetic, such as crows' feet or forehead lines.
All in all, Radiesse is a great addition to the armamentarium of nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. Its long-lasting results and biocompatibility make it a highly demanded procedure among those in the know. If you want to learn more about Radiesse and how it can help you, you should talk to a plastic surgeon.
