Darren Salkeld: Disaster Relief is Needed Across the Globe

As natural disasters and inclement weather cause problems throughout the world, philanthropist Darren Salkeld says disaster relief funding is more important than ever.

NEW YORK, NY, August 23, 2012

Over the past several months, various regions in the United States and Canada have been hit hard by adverse weather conditions. Whether drought or flood, these occurrences have caused property damage, financial hardships, and in some cases even bodily injury. However, these disasters are hardly confined to North America, or even to the West. A recent article in the Asian Journal suggests that natural disasters have blighted different parts of that continent in recent weeks, in some cases rendering the local people in dire need of disaster relief efforts. This article has won the attention of Darren Salkeld, who responds with a new statement to the press.

Darren Salkeld is a Canadian-based businessman and entrepreneur who has successfully led many companies to profitability. In addition to his zeal for business, however, Salkeld is also passionate about philanthropy. His noted philanthropic efforts have included donations to numerous disaster relief funds, in the service of ravaged areas across the planet, from New Orleans to Haiti.

In his press statement, Salkeld says that the advent of Internet technology has made disaster relief impossible to ignore--even when the disaster in question takes place on the opposite side of the world. "With the rise and dominance of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, we're not just limited to local community events and happenings any longer," says Darren Salkeld. "We're able to communicate with people on the other side of the world in a split second. Likewise, we are able to know and feel the pain when disaster strikes anywhere. We're all part of everything that happens globally, these days."

He goes on to say that global awareness makes disaster relief a global responsibility--even a moral imperative.

"It's time for everyone to step up and help with disaster relief efforts," says Darren Salkeld. "Assisting with disaster relief is not limited to giving money. Beyond these material donations, you can give time, give thoughts, say a prayer, think of the families who have lost everything and wish them the best. Essentially, you can pass your energy on to them and they will feel it."

Salkeld concludes his press statement with a call to action. "Together we can put this world back together, so let's unite as one and do what we can, one day at a time."

Darren Salkeld's comments come on the heels of the Asian Journal's report of savage, torrential rains having devastating effects in the Philippines. The United States Government has already pledged relief funds totaling more than $100,000, in an effort to curb some the damages done to local communities.
