History Associates' Exhibit Tracks the Evolution of Public Relations at PRSA's 2010 International Conference

History Associates, an historical research firm, will unveil a panel exhibit highlighting major eras, classic campaigns, and industry pioneers at Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) annual conference to be held October 2010 in Washington, D.C.

2010-10-06
ROCKVILLE, MD, October 06, 2010 (Press-News.org) History Associates, a leading historical research firm, is creating a special panel exhibit for this year's Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) annual conference to be held in later in October. The exhibit will trace the evolution of public relations from colonial times to today.

"This exciting exhibit is definitely not your typical tradeshow booth," said John D. Robinson, PRSA's vice president, Corporate Development & Industry Partnerships. "It's a compelling and holistic look at the history and evolution of our profession that nicely complements the many other educational opportunities available through our conference. I think conference attendees will find it fascinating."

"Much has changed over the years, especially in the last century since public relations has developed as a profession," noted Dr. Kenneth Durr, executive vice president at History Associates. "But much has remained the same—if Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay were pushing ratification of the Constitution today, they'd be blogging the 'Federalist Papers' instead of printing them."

To develop the exhibit, Dr. Durr and research historian Caitlin Olejniczak drew on extensive knowledge of American history, developed important milestones in the history of the profession, and, in consultation with PRSA, identified topics and themes to be developed in the exhibit. They then conducted archival research for documents and images to be featured.

The exhibit highlights many classic public relations campaigns conducted through the years, from Westinghouse's successful advocacy of alternating current in the 1880s to the Tylenol crisis management effort of the 1980s.

The exhibit will be on display in the main concourse of the conference. "Powering PRogress," PRSA's 2010 International Conference, will be held October 16-19 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.
