BEAUMONT, TX, August 29, 2012

The President of Lamar University, James Simmons, recently acknowledged Walter Umphrey, founding partner of the Provost Umphrey Law Firm, L.L.P. for his continued support of the University and the Provost Umphrey Stadium.

In 2008, the stadium was renamed the Provost Umphrey Stadium, in honor of a $3 million contribution from the Firm, and an additional $1 million gift from Walter and Sheila Umphrey.

"As I look back on my time as President of Lamar University, one of the unequaled experiences has been my involvement with the partnership between our University and your fine Law Firm," said Simmons in a letter to Umphrey. "The firm's recent pledge payment for the Provost Umphrey Stadium is a great commemoration of the importance of that partnership and the crucial impact of your philanthropic commitment to Lamar."

Walter Umphrey began his career as a prosecuting attorney and ultimately Chief Felony Prosecutor for the Jefferson County District Attorney's office right out of Baylor Law School. Walter is board certified in the areas of Personal Injury Trial Law and Labor & Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Beyond the practice of law, Walter has provided unwavering support to important civic and community causes. He serves as Director of the National Wildlife Association, Director of the LadyBird Johnson Wildflower Center, Director of both Texas Regional Bancshares, Inc., and Texas State Bank. Just recently, the newest cancer institute in Southeast Texas was named the Walter Umphrey Cancer Center.

For more than forty years, Provost Umphrey's mission has remained to seek justice for those suffering from a personal injury, wrongful death or other legal wrong across Texas and nationwide through their lawyers in Beaumont and Houston, Little Rock, Arkansas and Nashville, Tennessee.
