Provider Behavior Indicates Significant Shifts in AIMS Market Trends

As more hospitals move to integrated EMRs, an integrated Anesthesia Management System (AIMS) has added appeal.

2012-09-04
OREM, UT, September 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) The KLAS "AIMS 2012: Cooperation is Key" report discovers that since 2011, provider organizations contracting for anesthesia information management systems (AIMS) have jumped up 35 percent and that interest is growing in enterprise EMR vendor offerings.

KLAS findings show that when the AIMS purchasing decision is handled cooperatively between the hospital and the OR/anesthesia department, customer satisfaction is higher than if either entity makes the decision alone. To shed light on the discussion, KLAS examined which vendor solutions are most likely to meet the needs of each party.

Each vendor brings a unique and varied product to market; however, there is a trend. Research director and report author Mark Allphin said, "As more hospitals move to integrated EMRs, an integrated AIMS is a natural choice. The challenge for best-of-breed vendors will be to provide seamless interfacing while continually developing functionality that is so innovative and intuitive that it outweighs the value of native integration."

The vendors in this market--Cerner, Drager, Epic, GE Healthcare, iMDsoft, McKesson, Merge, Philips, Picis, and Surgical Information Systems (SIS)--come from many backgrounds. Some are device vendors, others are surgery vendors, and others still are best-of-breed or integrated enterprise EMR vendors.

For further information about anesthesia information management systems, the report "AIMS 2012: Cooperation is Key" is available for purchase online. Healthcare providers receive a significant discount off the standard retail price. To purchase, healthcare providers and vendors can visit www.KLASresearch.com/KLASreports.

Safety or Profit? Red-Light Cameras in Florida

2012-09-04
In March 2012, Pascoe County Judge Anne Wansboro ruled in favor of Thomas Filippone, who, after having travelled through an intersection that was equipped with a red-light camera, received a $158 traffic ticket in the mail. Judge Wansboro decided the matter on the constitutional level, writing that red-light camera use "impermissibly shifts the burden of proof to the Defendant and therefore does not afford due process, and is unconstitutional to the extent due process is not provided," as Liz Klimas reports for Blaze.com. The issue, boiled down to its essence, ...
