Dennis Bucko: Plastic Surgeon Underscores Health Issues Surrounding Breast Augmentation
Plastic surgeons are encouraging women to consider the health implications of breast augmentation--and Dennis Bucko, plastic surgeon, is among them.
NEW YORK, NY, September 05, 2012
Breast augmentation procedures are often labeled "cosmetic," or even "elective" surgeries. While these designations may not be inaccurate, they do obscure some of the real medical and health issues that surround breast augmentation. As such, more and more cosmetic surgeons are encouraging women to consider the health issues that attend breast augmentation, both before and after the procedure--and Dennis Bucko, plastic surgeon from the San Diego area, is among them.Dennis Bucko has issued a new press statement, in which he affirms the recent emphasis that the medical community has placed on breast augmentation. "I believe that breast augmentation procedures can be truly wonderful for many women, but it is important not to allow the cosmetic aspect of the surgery to distract from the many medical implications," says Dr. Bucko. "It is vital to consider the ways in which women can seek to protect and preserve their own health, both before and after the procedure takes place."
The plastic surgeon says that pre-surgery health is an important factor in determining whether a woman is a good candidate for breast augmentation. "Women seek breast augmentation for any number of reasons, but nobody ever seeks it because they wish to become unhealthy, or risk complications," says Bucko. "However, this is exactly what can happen when the woman is simply not a good candidate for the procedure." A good candidate, according to Dr. Bucko, is a woman who is close to her ideal body weight, and who does not engage in extreme diets that cause severe weight fluctuations.
In addition to weight, Dennis Bucko says that other lifestyle factors are in play. "Smoking is a major consideration," he says. "Whether you are seeking breast augmentation or have recently received it, smoking can be detrimental." He says that smoking is scientifically linked to breast sagging; refraining from tobacco use is vital for overall breast health.
Dennis Bucko, plastic surgeon, concludes his press statement by saying that, while maintaining overall breast health is important, some of the rumors surrounding breast implants are overstated, or just false. "The idea that breast implants increase cancer risk is a big one," notes Dr. Bucko. "There is simply no foundation for that."
The plastic surgeon concludes his press statement by noting that, for all of the health concerns that accompany it, breast augmentation can be a wonderful thing for many women. "Breast augmentation changes the entire look of the body," he affirms. "When paired with proper breast health, it can be highly beneficial."
