SCOTTSDALE, AZ, September 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Hair; for many women it is a defining factor of their looks. We spend hours washing, combing, styling, cutting, dying, and working it every which way to get the look we want. It is a source of expression and feminine pride and it is something that is uniquely ours.
Unfortunately for many women, hair loss is a common and upsetting issue. Watching something so special and unique fall out before your very eyes can be painful and can hurt a woman's self-esteem and confidence. This loss of confidence can lead to other issues such as depression and anxiety.
As a women ages, her body changes. It is typical for some hair loss and thinning with age but not a lot is not normal. Usually we loose 50-100 strands of hair per day, but if you see a significant difference in the amount of hair you may be experiencing hair loss due to factors other than the normal aging process.
While there is no one single cause for hair loss in women, there are several factors that have been identified as possible triggers for the problem.
First, hormone imbalance due to age has been identified as a reason for hair loss. When hormones are not properly balanced, a woman's body can undergo a host of changes such as the loss or thinning of hair strands. It is very important to keep your hormones balanced even through times of bodily change such as menopause. There are a host of natural herbal supplements on the market to aid in achieving this balance.
Second, genetic factors have an influence on hair loss. While you can't change your genes, you can look at your family history and use that as a basis for preventive measures. If women in your family have gone through phases of hair loss, you might consider preventive options such as taking daily vitamins or supplements.
Dietary regimens have also been identified as a possible reason for hair loss. Iron, vitamin and nutrient deficiency have all been linked to loss of hair in women. In addition, eating excessive amounts of sugary foods and carbohydrates can lead to the loss of hair. A balanced diet rich in proteins is one way to avoid hair loss due to dietary factors.
Additional factors that can lead to hair loss include stress, yeast and fungi overgrowth, immune system issues, blood loss, yo-yo and crash dieting, surgery, medications, and trauma.
In addition to maintaing a healthy diet, taking vitamins, and balancing your hormones, there are other alternative approaches to tackle the problem of hair loss in women. Massage of the scalp as well as acupuncture can both help increase the blood flow in the head area, which helps with the simulation of hair follicle function.
