ROCKVILLE, MD, August 20, 2010 (Press-News.org) The charitable efforts of five Montgomery County non-profit agencies have been bolstered by $25,000 in grants from the Montgomery Alliance for Community Giving, http://www.montgomeryalliance.org.
"The additional funding helps these organizations expand and support their existing programs and build a solid financial base to help their clients," says Mary Lou Jacobs, chair of MA's grants committee. "Montgomery Alliance focused on agencies working in three areas of need: promoting economic self-sufficiency, health-related services and non-emergency client assistance."
At its summer meeting, the Montgomery Alliance Board of Directors approved the following awards:
• $6,000 to Interfaith Works Project LEAD to assist clients of the Interfaith Clothing Center to seek better paying jobs
• $4,500 to the Housing Opportunities Community Partners, Inc. to assist families making the transition to permanent housing by helping them with application fees, security deposits, utility connection fees and other move-in costs
• $7,500 to Gaithersburg HELP, Inc. to purchase emergency prescription medications and eyeglasses for individuals, including school students in need of glasses
• $4,500 to Top Banana Home-Delivered Groceries to support its operating expenses providing groceries to 220 county senior citizens.
• $2,500 to The Dwelling Place, Inc. to furnish apartments for families entering its housing program
Grant recipients were chosen from 38 applicants, which represents a 19-percent increase
from 2009, says Jacobs. The larger number of applications reflects the agencies' increased need
to respond to Montgomery County's disadvantaged, she adds.
Founded in 2005, Montgomery Alliance is an all-volunteer non-profit that supports local health and human service agencies. Its funds are generated by its annual pledge campaign in local companies and city and county governments. Montgomery Alliance has the lowest operating rate of County agencies at 5 percent, which means of every $1 contributed, 95-cents are distributed directly to the charities.

"Dr. Dunn correctly concluded that women prefer older men. Nothing new there. Women have consistently preferred older men for thousands of years. But his study only covered PREFERENCES, not who these women ACTUALLY are dating. If his study had analyzed who women are actually dating, he would ...
