Online healthcare certification provider launches new heart disease facts special section.

According to the American Heart Association, Americans' cardiovascular health is "less than ideal." More than two-thirds of American adults and nearly one-third of American children are overweight or obese. Between 1971 and 2004, average calorie consumption increased by 22 percent in women and 10 percent in men. Furthermore, growing numbers of adults and children are not meeting recommended levels of physical activity. While the most recent statistics show that the death rate from cardiovascular diseases fell 30.6 percent from 1998 to 2008, cardiovascular diseases still account for one in three deaths in the U.S.

To help healthcare professionals and first responders prepare to respond to cardiovascular emergencies, HES offers an advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification course and a pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certification course--both available online.
