Alexander Ber Comments on the Importance of Wedding Rehearsals

As brides and grooms anticipate their autumn weddings, Alexander Ber, wedding planner, explains that wedding rehearsals are an important final step to ensuring a flawless ceremony.

PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 05, 2012

After months of intensive planning, brides and grooms will often breathe a sigh of relief as their wedding date approaches in hopes that all their preparation was worth the effort. While planning ahead is critical to crafting a perfect wedding, Southern California wedding planner, Alexander Ber explains that some things can only pan out near the ceremony date--for example, wedding rehearsals. Alexander Ber comments, "When it comes to planning a wedding, I typically like to keep my involvement with just the bride and the groom--as it is their day. However, most weddings are going to involve a slew of friends and family, and when it comes to preparing those individuals a thorough wedding rehearsal is a must."

A recent article from The Huffington Post highlights the many things that can go wrong if a wedding party does not host an adequate rehearsal to smooth out finer details. The article's author, Sandy Malone, focuses on how destination weddings can be particularly threatening to an effective rehearsal. Malone suggests, "I strongly recommend that you consider having your wedding rehearsal in the morning if you're hosting a destination wedding weekend. Your wedding party is going to be absolutely useless after an afternoon of drinking in the sun on the beach or at the golf course, and the rehearsal will be a waste of everybody's time."

Alexander Ber responds, "Malone's tips are really spot-on, and do not necessarily have to apply to destination weddings. Near the time of the rehearsal, one has to remember that there are bachelor parties, bachelorette parties and relatives and friends getting together as they fly into town. These guests may be here for the wedding, but a rehearsal has to be planned at their convenience."

During the actual rehearsal, Alexander Ber suggests paying attention to every small detail, from flowers to dresses. He notes, "If something doesn't look or feel right, I'll often suggest a quick change so that the wedding party can feel comfortable during the actual ceremony. You don't want your guests stressing out trying to fit a picture perfect image, you want them to be calm and genuine."

On the matter of wedding planners, the article suggests that everyone stay aligned with his or her plans; if one is not available, it is best to enlist the help of a "Type A" friend or relative who can take control of the rehearsal's flow. Alexander Ber concludes, "During the planning months before, I try to take the backseat and let my clients choose the elements they want. However, the article brings up a noteworthy point--when it comes time for the ceremony, things must be in order and often will require a leader."
