Child Abuse Prevention Center Celebrates Festival of Children Success In Honoring National Child Awareness Month

The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center concluded its participation in the Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza as part of the celebration and festivities honoring September as National Child Awareness Month.

2012-10-11
COSTA MESA, CA, October 11, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center concluded its participation in the Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza as part of the celebration and festivities honoring September as National Child Awareness Month.

With more than one million people passing through South Coast Plaza in the month of September, the Festival of Children celebration hosted several free events for Orange County's children and parents to enjoy together. Additional family-friendly activities were hosted by 75 participating nonprofits, including the Child Abuse Prevention Center, whose booth saw over 1,600 families.

"The Festival of Children provides the community with an opportunity to become aware of all of the valuable programs and services charities in Orange County offer," said Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, founder and executive director of the Festival of Children Foundation. "A few years ago, a Festival of Children attendee was able to find information at the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center booth to share with a friend who was aware of a child in an abusive home."

This year, the Child Abuse Prevention Center's booth spotlighted their Parent to Parent program, a program funded by the County of Orange Health Care Agency that provides parent education services at no cost to Orange County families with children ages 0-12. The parent education curriculum covers topics such as strengthening relationships, reducing conflict, collaborative planning, and problem solving.

"Positive parenting practices are vital for great families, and are an ideal theme for the Festival of Children and National Child Awareness Month," said Scott Trotter, executive director of the Child Abuse Prevention Center. "The activities hosted by Sandy Segerstrom Daniels and the Festival of Children Foundation provided a unique opportunity to bring families together while connecting them to the tremendous network of nonprofit support here in our community."
