Alicia Negrete: Building Toys Provide Fun While Developing Motor Skills

A new start-up toy company has released an innovative product to the market. Respected toy manufacturer Alicia Negrete comments on this unique idea.

2012-10-16
PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) It is through play that children develop an understanding of the world around them. Play is also integral to the development of their motor skills. An article published on Engineering News described the innovative efforts of new toy manufacturer Tugo Build Company. Experienced toy manufacturer Alicia Negrete commented on their unique new product.

The article reports the South African start-up company known just as Tugo was founded by entrepreneur and inventor Abel Chetty. He developed uniquely shaped plastic construction toys comprise of 21 different parts. Just of few of those components include wheels, pivots, connectors and building blocks, notes the article.

These toys make use of cardboard tubes, like those found on empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls. By connecting these items to the plastic toys, children can build nearly anything they imagine. According to the article, these toys aim to encourage parents to get involved in play too.

Alicia Negrete commented on this innovative product. In a statement to the press, she stated: "Most Americans are familiar with the beloved Tinker Toys that used wooden connectors, fat wheels and thin sticks in the construction of unique structures. Tugo's plastic models are unique in that they use household items to facilitate play. Kids have the added adventure of collecting tubes as they become available through the regular use of home products. From a business perspective, Tugo's partnership with Nampak is also a great idea."

That partner relationship is further noted in the article. Nampak, a packaging company, supports Tugo by encouraging the use of its paper towel and toilet paper rolls as building products. The article goes on to report popular supermarket chain Pick-n-Pay expressed a confirmed interest in carrying the new toy. According to the article, Retail group Edcon already piloted the toys in 30 of its top stores.

The article reports Tugo received support and funds across a number of development programs since 2010. The Industrial Development Corporation's Support Programme for Industrial Innovation sponsored one such grant. Other support in the form of enterprise development came from Sasol's ChemCity. Soshanguve Manufacturing Technology Demonstration Centre, an
India-Brazil-South Africa incubation organization, also supported the company's development, concluded the article.

Problems with Marijuana Based DUI in Arizona

2012-10-16
Arizona law prohibits drivers from operating motor vehicles while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Kids and Crime: Connecticut Passes 'Raise the Age' Law

2012-10-16
A separate justice system for juveniles is not some sentimental Victorian notion that has no place in today's tough-minded criminal justice system. Cutting-edge research increasingly shows that the parts of the brain regulating risk taking and rational control are still not fully formed in teenagers. Holding juveniles to adult standards, then, is a very problematic policy. Fortunately, Connecticut has finally passed "Raise the Age" legislation to require young offenders under the age of 18 to have their cases heard in juvenile court and be segregated from adult ...
