Sam Mustafa Reacts to New South Carolina Tourism Strategy

Officials of South Carolina recently announced plans to invest more resources into boosting tourism rates for less-visited areas. Sam Mustafa of the Charleston Hospitality Group supports this venture, noting the importance of coastal tourism.

2012-10-29
PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Throughout the years, South Carolina has wooed many tourists with popular destinations such as Charleston, Hilton Head and Greenville, creating a $15 billion tourism industry for the state. Despite these successes, a recent article from CBS News reveals that South Carolina tourism officials are planning to use resources in a more strategic manner to generate additional interest in the state's lesser-known attractions, such as the Cherokee Foothills Trail and the Jocassee Gorges. Sam Mustafa is one professional who has effectively monitored the success of tourism in the Charleston, South Carolina, region through his company, the Charleston Hospitality Group. Mustafa explains that this new development is an innovative approach that is likely to produce greater interest in the southern state.

Although Sam Mustafa has remained focused on the Charleston area, he notes that coastal tourism rates are a major factor in the economics felt across the entire state. He hopes that the new plans under South Carolina's Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT) department will attract more visitors that are not familiar with the wide range of attractions that the state can offer. According to the article, some efforts set forth under PRT direction have already proven successful, including a 30 percent visitor increase in Spartanburg--home of Wofford College and pre-season training camp of the Carolina Panthers.

Noting the potential in these new tourism promotions, PRT Director Duane Parrish explains in the article, "At PRT we have to be more effective with our dollars and rural areas are places where we could do that." The article also notes that the new tourism plan involves a heavy focus on media promotion that will mostly appeal to those who are "interested in outdoor activities, shopping, antiquing and exploring the state's history and cuisine."

Sam Mustafa is encouraged by the diverse set of attractions this new outreach will highlight, including those found in the coastal regions. He concludes, "The Charleston Hospitality Group certainly supports the promotion of lesser-known destinations and venues. South Carolina cannot ignore the fact that coastal tourism is essential to the region's economy, which has yet to achieve pre-recession levels of profit generated by tourism as a whole."
