NEW YORK, NY, November 19, 2012 (Press-News.org) As the host for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, the spotlight is on Rio de Janeiro. Brazil has enjoyed an economic boom over the last decade. As the world's sixth largest economy, Brazil has a lot at stake.
However, underneath Brazil's growing prosperity and the beautiful beaches of Rio de Janeiro, lies another city - a city where three million abandoned and homeless children live in poverty -- and die on the streets from drugs and violence every day.
Documentary photographer, Viviane Moos launched her career twenty-one years ago with several award-winning stories focused on the plight of Brazil's street children. Her powerful stories received international acclaim for their intimate and heartbreaking images of the daily struggles of these children.
Now she is returning to Rio to finish her story by revisiting those who have survived the streets. Viviane hopes to publish her book, Brazilian Street Diary with funding raised through Kickstarter, the highly successful crowdfunding tool.
Viviane is asking her friends and family to become activists by pledging their support of Brazilian Street Diary through Kickstarter. On her Kickstarter site, you'll find her video, project statement and a list of pledge levels. Everyone who makes a pledge will receive a gift -- everything from a first edition copy of her book to a limited edition print to a private dinner for two in her Manhattan loft. (She claims to be an excellent cook as well as a photographer).
Viviane hopes to raise $20,000 in funds to cover her travel, photography, and printing expenses. Once funded her book is scheduled to be available in Spring 2013 - with 10% of all sales going to Remer House, a foundation in Rio working to give street children a chance at a better future.
