MCLEAN, VA, November 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Liposuction is a versatile body-contouring procedure that can be used in many different body areas, including the face. Fat deposits in the face often do not respond to diet and exercise the way fat in other parts of the body does. If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of fat deposits in your face, facial liposuction may be right for you.

Like liposuction for the body, facial liposuction uses a special instrument to suction away fat. Depending on your surgeon's technology and techniques, the fat may be prepared for removal with laser or ultrasound energy. After your procedure, compression may be used to encourage your skin to conform to your new facial shape.

Facial Liposuction Candidates
Facial liposuction may be right for you if you want to remove fat and puffiness from:
- Jowls
- Underneath the chin
- Neck
- Cheeks

You may be experiencing facial fat deposits as a result of weight gain or aging, or you may have always had a heavier face than you would like.

To be a good candidate for facial liposuction, you should be at or near your ideal weight. If you continue to lose significant amounts of weight following liposuction, your facial shape may change slightly and you may lose the results of the procedure.

Facial Liposuction Procedure
Facial liposuction is performed with a cannula, which is a thin tube used to suction fat. Through a small incision in the facial treatment area, the cannula will be inserted and fat suctioned away.

There are various types of liposuction, including:

- Laser-assisted liposuction: Laser energy liquefies fat cells before they are removed, resulting in more efficient, less traumatic fat removal.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction: A vibrating cannula emits ultrasound energy, which breaks apart and liquefies fat cells.
- Tumescent liposuction: Tumescent fluid numbs and expands the treatment area, resulting in less traumatic fat removal and less blood loss.

You should ask your plastic or facial surgeon about the technology that will be used. If a special technique is used, you should ask about the benefit to you and the possible risks.

Ask your surgeon how long you will have to be absent from social and work-related activities. You may be able to return to work within several days, once the initial swelling and bruising has gone away. Over the next several months, remaining facial swelling will dissipate and the final results of your facial liposuction will become apparent.

The results of your facial liposuction should be long-term. The removed fat cells will not come back after your procedure, but a significant weight gain could possibly cause new fat cells to form.

Bad Breath: Causes and Solutions

2012-11-22
Some causes of bad breath are obvious: foods and beverages that have strong odors are absorbed into your bloodstream and eventually carried to your lungs. This means that the onion you had for lunch or the coffee you had at breakfast will continue to come out in your breath until it has left your system. Likewise with smoking, although smoking also causes dry mouth, another factor in bad breath, making it twice as likely to produce an offensive odor. Other causes of bad breath may include general oral hygiene issues such as: - Improper brushing and flossing - Gum ...

2012-11-22
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention classifies three types of distracted driving practices: visual (taking your eyes off the road), cognitive (taking your mind off the task of driving) and manual (taking your hands off the driving wheel).
