Fatal Myrtle Beach Motorcycle Accident Shows Need for Safe Driving

South Carolina started the 2012 cycling season with a fatal accident in Myrtle Beach, which is a reminder of how necessary it is for motorcyclists to practice safe driving habits.

2012-12-18
December 18, 2012 (Press-News.org) Motorcycling is a big hobby in South Carolina. While the state does not have quite the renown that Sturgis does, South Carolina hosts several motorcycle rallies throughout the year and bikers from across the U.S. attend these events. Unfortunately, South Carolina started the 2012 cycling season with a fatal motorcycle accident in Myrtle Beach, which is a reminder of how necessary it is for motorcyclists and the drivers with whom they share the road to practice safe driving habits.

Myrtle Beach Motorcycle Accident

Myrtle Beach police reported that a motorcyclist from Charleston was traveling on 3rd Avenue South at 7 a.m. on May 26, 2012, when the biker collided with a car. The 39-year-old man died at the scene. Police say that the man was not wearing a helmet and they were unsure what caused the accident. Police have not filed any charges in the matter.

Motorcycle Safety Tips

Motorcyclists face dangers that drivers of other vehicles do not every time they get on their bikes, as the accident in Myrtle Beach demonstrates. However, motorcyclists can follow some simple safety tips to decrease their likelihood of getting into an accident:
-Give the motorcycle a tune-up before taking it out for the first ride of the season and maintain it throughout the season
-Wear a helmet and other protective gear such as gloves, a jacket, pants and sturdy footwear
-Wear bright colors to increase visibility to other drivers
-Obey the speed limit
-Try to stay out of other drivers' blind spots
-Do not weave in and out of traffic or drive on the shoulder
-Decrease speed and use caution when turning
-Use the motorcycle's headlights to increase visibility

Safety is not all on the shoulders of motorcyclists, however. Other drivers need to be aware that motorcyclists are on the road and watch out for them.

Talk to a Lawyer

Getting injured in a motorcycle accident disrupts a person's life entirely. A person may worry about how to make ends meet and pay medical bills while he or she cannot work during the time recovering from the injury. Trying to seek compensation from those at fault may seem like an overwhelming task -- especially while trying to heal from injuries. If you have been in a motorcycle accident, contact a personal injury attorney with experience handling motorcycle accident cases to help you recover fair remuneration.

California Playboy Employee Claims Wrongful Termination

2012-12-18
Like most states, California follows "at-will" employment rules for non-contractual employment relationships. What this means is, absent a contract that sets rules to the contrary, either the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, and for nearly any reason. There does not need to be cause to terminate. There are some exceptions to this rule. California employers may not terminate employees for discriminatory reasons or for refusing to participate in illegal activities. Employees who are fired under these circumstances ...

Sexual Harassment the Leading Source of Large Discrimination Awards

2012-12-18
Many people still think of a lot of workplaces as being "Old Boys Clubs." As such, they think that lewd, harassing or chauvinistic comments are something that has to be tolerated in order to fit in. While sexual harassment in the workplace is unfortunately all too common, no one should ever have to tolerate it. Sexual harassment is not just bad for workplace morale; it is also a serious violation of both California and federal law. Workers who are victimized by discrimination in the workplace have a right to seek financial compensation by bringing discrimination ...

Previously, Florida accident victims had two years to make PIP medical ...

Due to the worst economy since the Great Depression, more people than ever either are out of work or are being forced into lower-paying jobs.
