David S. Lipschultz of Goldberg Weisman Cairo has filed a civil rights lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, on behalf of Diangelo Beasley against three former Schaumburg Police Officers currently being charged with multiple felonies in DuPage County. On June 27, 2012, Mr. Diangelo Beasley was falsely arrested and beaten by former Schaumburg Police Officers John Cichy, Matthew Hudak and Terrance O'Brien. Mr. Diangelo was not committing any crimes or bad acts whatsoever. Instead, Mr. Beasley was the victim of these police officers' long-running campaign of delivering illegal drugs, criminal conspiracy, official misconduct, armed violence and theft. A joint investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the DuPage County authorities led to the arrest of these three police officers on January 16, 2013.
In addition to facing the injustice of being wrongfully incarcerated for over seven months as a result of the acts of corrupt police officers, Mr. Beasley also was deprived of enjoying time with his baby daughter, Rosina, who was born one month before his false arrest. During his incarceration Mr. Beasley could only observe Rosina through a glass jail window.
While watching television in a Cook County Jail dayroom, Mr. Beasley learned of the arrest of the Schaumburg police officers and he saw footage of the very officers who had falsely arrested and beaten him. Mr. Beasley felt that he would finally get some justice. Indeed, he was released from jail a few weeks later, as Cook County prosecutors have dismissed his criminal case and over a dozen others because they had been arrested by the accused Schaumburg officers.
Mr. Beasley faced the prospect of up to 30 years in prison due to the false charged manufactured by the officers.
Mr. Beasley and his attorneys at Goldberg Weisman Cairo are suing these officers for false arrest and excessive force, and have also set forth a claim for negligent supervision against the Village of Schaumburg for failing to stop these officers earlier.
Mr. Beasley's case was the subject of an article in the Chicago Sun-Times on February 19, 2013, by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Frank Main.
