SUNY Ulster Government and History Professor to be Honored in London by His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, The Duke of York

STONE RIDGE, NY, October 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) SUNY Ulster Associate Professor of Government and History Dr. Ray Raymond will be honored by His Royal Highness, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, at a ceremony at St. James's Palace, London, on Oct.25, for his leadership in co-founding and leading the City Fellowships in Financial Services for 20 years as its Chief Executive.

The City Fellowships are highly competitive, merit-based fellowships with the goal of: enabling outstanding young American minority financial service professionals to go to the City of London to get high level work experience of global capital markets with Goldman Sachs International and to study global finance through Goldman's own Finance University; and to strengthen the links between the new generation in the City of London and Wall Street.

The City Fellowship, an operating program of the Philadelphia Foundation, is funded by Goldman Sachs as well as private donations. The unique fellowships have been described by "Black Enterprise" as one of America's most "fabulous fellowships."

To date, $20 million in fellowships have been awarded, transforming dozens of lives and careers. The Fellows have said that the program has been a turning point in their careers, providing them with experience of new global markets as well as new skill sets.

Fellow Nicole Clark, a member of the class of 2009, wrote to Dr. Raymond: "The vision and leadership that you have shown are extraordinary. You have helped so many people like me live their dream-not many people can genuinely say that. I am grateful to have you in my corner as I make my journey."

Many alumni of the program join Goldman Sachs. Others go on scholarships to MBA programs at top business schools like Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the Tuck School at Dartmouth, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Older alumni are now managing directors at leading international investment banks, such as Rothschilds, JP Morgan Chase and RLJ Private Equity.

Raymond, a Lagrangeville resident teaches American history and American government, including honors classes, at SUNY Ulster. He is the director of the college's Institute for Constitutional Studies. A member of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, he spent 20 years in the diplomatic service of the United Kingdom and has advised British Prime Minister Tony Blair's chief of staff and senior policy adviser on American politics and public policy, including the role of community colleges in U.S. higher education.
