Kroger Reaches Fundraising Milestone Of $1 Million In Donations For Muscular Dystrophy Association

Local Grocer's Partnership With Nonprofit Health Agency Raises Money To Assist Children And Adults Served By MDA

RALEIGH, NC, April 07, 2013

The Kroger Co. (http://www.kroger.com), the nation's largest traditional grocery retailer with 14 stores throughout the Triangle and North Carolina, has reached a milestone by raising $1 million in fundraising efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) over the last eight years. This year alone, Kroger customers and associates in the Triangle raised more than $17,000 by selling shamrocks at store cash registers, which ended on St. Patrick's Day on March 17. In addition, Kroger customers hosted car washes, bake sales, lunch sales, eating contests and raffles to further support MDA. Collectively, Kroger associates and customers in the mid-Atlantic region raised more than $143,000 for the MDA in 2012. The money raised will help finance MDA summer camps for children and will fund local health care services for both children and adults affected by some 40 neuromuscular diseases.

Carl York, corporate affairs manager for Kroger's mid-Atlantic region, said the MDA shamrock program is a great way to support the local community. All donations made at area Kroger stores will go toward assisting children and adults served by MDA within the Raleigh district.

QUOTES:
"Kroger's continued participation in our shamrock fundraiser has made a tremendous difference in the lives of both children and adults impacted by muscular dystrophy," said Elizabeth Fligor, fundraising coordinator at MDA.
