Wrong Way Driver Causes a Fatal Collision on Lake Shore Drive

In the early morning hours on March 15, 2013, two people were killed and one injured by a wrong way driver on Lake Shore Drive.

2013-04-14
CHICAGO, IL, April 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) In the early morning hours on March 15, 2013, two people were killed and one injured by a wrong way driver on Lake Shore Drive. According to Chicago Police, an off-duty North Chicago Police Officer, identified as Terrell Garrett, entered southbound Lake Shore Drive heading in the wrong direction.

Witnesses estimate Garrett was travelling more than 60 mph and that other drivers were flashing their lights to try to alert him. The Chicago Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Authorities indicate that Garrett first crashed into a Toyota, severely injuring the driver, and then crashed into a Jeep, killing both passengers, college students Joaquin Garcia, 25, and Fabian Torres, 27.

Garrett has been charged with two counts of reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

Chicago accident attorneys, Leopold & Associates, are representing one of the victims of this tragic collision and seeking to obtain all compensation that may be available for this incident.

In cases such as this, not only may the driver of the wrong way car be responsible but also any bars or individuals causing a driver's intoxication may be liable.

In addition, a victim's own underinsured motorist coverage may provide more funds.

Finally, issues of improper road signage should also be checked as a possible area for liability. Leopold & Associates will investigate all potential areas for recovery.

Qualified Responders Can Speed Emergency Breakdown Resolution

2013-04-14
While many roadside repair services may exist for commercial trucking, fleet owners should look for one that is staffed by qualified maintenance coordinators who know their way around trucks and trailers and can speak the language a driver needs to hear, said Byron Lay, Director of AmeriQuest Road Rescue in a blog posting on the AmeriQuest Transportation Services website. When the driver connects to a call center manned by professionals who are knowledgeable about everything from chassis and axles to suspension and electrical systems, it can speed the process significantly ...

NASA's TRMM Satellite sees Cyclone Victoria being blown apart

2013-04-13
Tropical Cyclone Victoria is now a remnant low pressure area in the Southern Indian Ocean after running into strong wind shear that has been tearing the storm apart. New device could cut costs on household products, pharmaceuticals

2013-04-13
Sometimes cost saving comes in nanoscale packages. A new procedure that thickens and thins fluid at the micron level could save consumers and manufacturers money, particularly for soap products that depend on certain molecules to effectively deal with grease and dirt. Researchers at the University of Washington published their findings online April 9 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Read the back of most shampoos and dishwashing detergents and you'll find the word "surfactant" in the list of active ingredients. Surfactant molecules are tiny, yet ...
