Joshua Pastore Comments on Yahoo's Purchase of App from Young Entrepreneur

Joshua Pastore, a student and entrepreneur, has come out in support of the purchase of a mobile app by Internet giant Yahoo.

2013-04-15
PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) Joshua Pastore, who founded Hawk Vision Applications, LLC, is offering his support regarding the purchase of startup app Summly by Yahoo. Yahoo has been ramping up its mobile efforts under new CEO Marissa Mayer. A new article details the company's recent purchased of the mobile news gathering app, with reports stating that the purchase price was nearly $30M.

Summly allows users to browse news, and share stories with their friends. 17-year-old Nick D'Aloislo created the sleek piece of technology. Since its creation, the app has gone on to raise $1.53M from high-profile investors like Horizons Ventures, Shakil Khan, Troy Carter, and even Yoko Ono.

Joshua Pastore, who is also a young mobile app developer, praises this transaction. He states, "As young and talented entrepreneurs like Nick continue to showcase their skills, we will probably see more mobile apps developed by people under 30. In years past, huge business ventures such as this were reserved for individuals with years of industry experience. It's clear that in our 21st-century world, it's no longer about age, but rather talent level and the type of products a person can create."

A spokesperson for Yahoo states that staff members from Summly will join the company over the course of the upcoming weeks. The app as it stands now will shut down, but the Summly service will become a part of Yahoo's current mobile experience.

Adam Cahan, who serves as Yahoo's Senior Vice President of Mobile and Emerging products comments on the acquisition on thee company's blog. He states, "At the age of 15, Nick D'Alosio created the Summly app at his home in London. It started with an insight--that we live in a world of constant information and need new ways to simplify how we find the stories that are important to us, at a glance. Mobile devices are shifting our daily routines, and users have changed not only what, but how much information they consume. The ability to skim them on a phone or a tablet can be a real challenge--we want easier ways to identify what's important to us."

The Summly app, which was originally called Trimit, uses an algorithm to pull news stories and display the important parts for a user to quickly glance over. The deal is just one of Yahoo's recent acquisitions when it comes to mobile technology. The company also recently bought social recommendation company Jybe.

Joshua Pastore speaks out on these changes at Yahoo noting, "In order for companies to continue to serve their users properly, advancements such as these are important. The acquisition is a positive for fans of Yahoo, and it is also a plus for entrepreneurs who are hoping to have their products noticed in a crowded marketplace."
