SOUTHBURY, CT, August 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) Award winning wildlife artist, Dorie Petrochko (www.doriepetrochko.com) will be showcasing her masterpiece paintings at this year's fine arts festival. The Southbury Women's Club hosts this artisan event annually. This year's festival is Sat. Sept. 25th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the Southbury Green rain or shine. Talented artists, crafters, and jewelers will be showcasing their products for purchase. Stop by to meet her as well as other jewelers, sculptors, and crafters at this year's big event.

Dorie is an accomplished painter, illustrator and teacher who has lectured and taught drawing and painting from nature in local schools and Audubon centers. Her most recent venture is focused on the launch of a new educational program entitled Connecticut Natural Science Illustrators. Classes for students of all levels will be offered at the Yale Peabody West Campus Community Center (www.ctnsi.com) in Orange, CT.

Interviewer: What is your educational background?
Dorie: "I was raised in Staten Island, New York where I received my Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Wagner College in Staten Island. I advanced my studies in the art of puppetry in France and travelled with a Parisian Marionette Theatre. Upon returning to the U.S., I began my own traveling puppet theater in Boston. I eventually turned to teaching art where I attended graduate school at Southern CT State University, receiving my masters in Art Education. I have been happily teaching art in schools and universities for 20 years."

Interviewer: How did you become interested in natural science illustrating/painting?
Dorie: "I have always been passionate about painting natural science subjects but after attending the program at the NY Botanical Garden I was convinced that this would be my life's work. In 2007, I received my certification in Botanical and Natural Science Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden."

Interviewer: What inspires you?
Dorie: "The intricacy of detail and color in nature is so inspirational. I am particularly passionate about drawing and painting birds. I spend much time observing, sketching and photographing birds in preparation for my paintings."

Interviewer: Any goals or hopes for the future with regards to your art / new initiatives?
Dorie: "We hope to draw a wide audience of students from CT and surrounding communities for the Connecticut Natural Science Illustrators program. My personal artistic goal is to gain acceptance into the prestigious Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin for 2011."

Additional fine artists and hand crafters are being sought for the 6th Annual Fall Fine Arts.
Festival hosted by the Southbury Women's Club and generously sponsored by ShopRite and Newtown Savings Bank. Vendor positions are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
SWC expects between 40-60 artisans to be exhibiting this year.

MADrunkDrivingDefense.com Discusses MADD Getting A "D" From The American Institute of Philanthropy

2010-08-24
Despite decades of effort to reduce drunk driving by organizations as MADD, DUI/OUI cases still exist. Russell Matson, a Massachusetts Drunk Driving Attorney, and owner of www.MADrunkDrivingDefense.com has been a part of countless DUI/OUI cases in the state of Massachusetts and sees little significant change in the number of incidents during this time. And now there is increasing evidence that the organization has lost sight of its goals. The American Institute of Philanthropy recently downgraded MADD to a "D" in its 2010 Charity Guide and Watchdog Report, citing the ...

Mercury: the Element Behind Fluorescent Lamps

2010-08-24
Mercury is an essential component of energy-efficient fluorescent lamps, allowing them to produce light and provide a longer life in comparison to incandescent bulbs. A typical fluorescent lamp is composed of a phosphor coated glass tube with electrodes located at either end. The tube contains mercury, of which only a very small amount is in vapor form. When a voltage is applied, the electrodes energize the mercury vapor, causing it to emit ultraviolet (UV) energy. The phosphor coating absorbs the UV energy, causing the phosphor to fluoresce and emit visible light.1 The ...

When Considering Auto Insurance Options, Consumers Should Look Beyond Price

2010-08-24
Getting a good auto insurance policy means a lot more than finding the one with the cheapest price. Although budgets may be tight, consumers need to take into account what level of service they will be getting, which is not so hard to do with the help of online resources. Consumers need to remember that even though going with the cheapest insurance company may, luckily, end up being the smartest option, this is not always the case. A cheap policy from an unreliable coverage provider is not worth much in the end. So, once a shopper finds a decently priced auto insurance ...

Acne Victims are Helped with Makeovers, Lawsuits

2010-08-24
Hiding acne can be easy if you use the right makeup. Houston-based Heidi Schulze, one of America's top makeup artists, proves it in a new how-to video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuptUKD_MGg, which transforms a self-conscious car saleswoman with adult acne into a drop-dead gorgeous top-model lookalike. If only more acne sufferers had tried this approach. Instead they took Accutane, which cleared up their blemishes but also gave many users severe, lifelong and debilitating digestive disorders that often involved surgery. Now these victims are taking Accutane creator ...

Integration and Functionality Drive RIS Decisions

2010-08-24
Radiology Information System (RIS) purchases have often taken a back seat to EMR and PACS decisions. However, new products entering the RIS market and vendors expanding their EMR and PACS client bases with integrated solutions suggest that radiology information systems are taking a renewed priority in purchasing decisions and being included in discussions surrounding meaningful use's electronic information exchange requirements. According to a recent KLAS report, "RIS in the Middle: The Integration Tug of War", RIS decisions are being pulled in three different directions ...
