Arnold McClellan Guides Tax Payers Who Missed the Deadline
Arnold McClellan provides tips for tax payers who missed Tax Day and are not sure what to do next.
PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 24, 2013
Arnold McClellan, noted tax professional, understands that April 15 is a date that many citizens have seen come and go without submitting their taxes. As Tax Day, this is the steadfast deadline that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has set for individuals to turn in their tax forms. But this does not mean that the citizens who have missed this deadline must wait another year in order to pay Uncle Sam. In fact, McClellan encourages them not to do so. Here, he provides guidance for these citizens based on an article published by Forbes. The first thing that the article and McClellan urge individuals to do is not to panic. The article explains that panicking will only lead to procrastination, which puts individuals in a worse predicament. Instead, it encourages individuals to file as soon as possible: "If you didn't file on time, get your return together as soon as you can. Penalties and interest are dependent on the passage of time. The more time that goes by, the more you will owe. And the longer you wait, the more time you are giving the IRS since the statute of limitations for assessment won't start until you file. So file."
Some individuals may have avoided filing on purpose because they cannot pay the taxes that they owe, but the article explains that this will just put them in a more difficult financial spot than if they file but cannot pay right away, as they will be fined for both not paying what they owe and not filing. While individuals can file their taxes themselves, the article asserts that turning to a professional to take care of the situation can alleviate the stress that missing the deadline can cause. McClellan agrees.
"Missing Tax Day can be extremely stressful for citizens," Arnold McClellan asserts. "The worst thing that someone can do, though, is to allow this stress to cause them to rush through their return and submit inaccurate information. When individuals have missed Tax Day I highly encourage them to hire an experienced tax preparer who can get their return in order and send it off as soon as possible."
Arnold McClellan asserts that creating a long-standing relationship with a trusted tax preparer is a wonderful way to avoid small mistakes, such as overlooking deadlines.
