Saskatchewan Spy Thriller wins CBC Bookie Award

New Canadian spy novel garners CBC people's choice award win.

2013-04-26
SASKATOON, SK, April 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) There are dozens of contests and awards that are handed out every year to worthy authors, but a CBC Bookie Award is special because it's the "people's choice" award for books. Xander Richards of Saskatoon won the category of " The Page Turner Award for the Canadian Book you Couldn't Put Down" for his novel COAST: An Act of Burial, a spy thriller that reads more like a movie script than a novel.

"It's very exciting to have a book nominated for the coveted Golden Beaver certificate. It's fantastic to have been counted amongst such outstanding books. It means that there were people who took the time to vote and support my endeavours, and since the readers are why I do this, I am so thankful to them for letting the world know that this is one of those books they loved and want others to take a chance on," says Richards.

The public polling system for the CBC Bookie Award highlights both traditional and self published works, which is ideal for new authors just breaking onto the Canadian scene. It's an opportunity for the Canadian public to give their opinions since they suggest the categories and recommend the nominations.

"A new author couldn't ask for more than to win in a category like this. I am proud to be one of the authors representing the awesome province of Saskatchewan which is home to so many amazing writers," says Richards who is now into a sixth printing of his popular book

Xander will be signing copies of his award winning book April 27th 1-4PM, in a joint signing with Gary Chappell at Coles Bookstore, Midtown Mall, Saskatoon.
