Cherokee Holdings, LLC, A Wholly Owned Subsidiary Of Scalada Holdings, LTD. Is Asked To Provide Solutions To Environmental Problems With Norweigian Krill Oil Production

Cherokee's engineering and management expertise sought to ensure that Norway's harvesting of krill will be sustainable and help advert environmental disasters.

SINGAPORE, April 30, 2013

Cherokee Holdings LLC, an engineering firm which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Scalada Holdings, Ltd., (www.scaladaholdings.net) has been asked to submit proposals to solve major ecological problems faced by Norway in its harvesting and production of krill oil. Cherokee was approached for its successful history of providing ecologically sustainable solutions to environmental problems through its combined efforts of joint ventures, management consulting, and technological innovation.

Krill oil is made from a species of krill, small crustaceans found in all the world's oceans. Krill is an essential organism in the Antarctic ecosystem, fundamental to the survival of almost every species of animal that lives in the Antarctic or sub-Antarctic waters and island groups. It is estimated to make up the largest biomass on the planet, with one species alone accounting for a biomass of 500,000,000 tonnes, roughly twice that of humans.

Krill is not only essential as part of the global food chain, aquaculture and aquarium feeds, and bait for sport fishing, but krill oil has increasingly importantly applications in the pharmaceutical industry for its exceedingly high concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidant qualities.
Norway, after entering the krill production industry as recently as 2006, has become the largest harvester of krill, exceeding the previous leaders Japan, the USSR/Russia, South Korea, Poland, and the Ukraine. Norway's annual krill catches is approximately 120,000 tonnes, a fraction of an Antarctic Ocean stock estimated at between 100 million to 500 million tonnes. Yet, even this fractional number has already led to major adverse ecological impacts. In 2008, addressing the problem, the Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg stated that "We are concerned to catch krill in an environmentally sustainable way."

Various international organizations and enterprises have also addressed the seriousness of the potentially disastrous effects of krill overkill harvesting practices. These institutions include the Marine Stewardship Council, the Commission for Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, the World Wildlife Foundation Norway, the Arctic Krill Conservation Project (funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts), and AkerBioMarine, a Norwegian integrated biotech company.
Now, add to the list Cherokee Holdings LLC, which has been asked to add its expertise to identifying and implementing engineering solutions, which are to include but are not limited to
• Promotion of management of marine resources in Norwegian administered krill harvesting waters which are ecologically sustainable
• Design and installation of harvesting engineering which supports the above goal.
Scalada Holdings CEO Manly Logan recently stated that "We at Scalada recognize the incredible importance of ensuring that krill harvesting and production is done is such a way that is both sustainable and cost effective. We have every confidence that our subsidiary, Cherokee Holdings LLC, is the proper institution to accomplish this mix."
