Winter holiday-goers will get more for their dollar as the off-peak season encourages a drop in flight prices from destinations like Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and New Zealand to the Sunshine Coast.A leading accommodation identity on the Sunshine Coast says trips to Noosa and surrounding regions are now easier and more affordable for our southern states and New Zealand during winter.
Stay in Noosa General Manager Dave Langdon says the increase in flights and decrease in price is keeping the tourism industry alive in Australia and the Sunshine Coast is the perfect winter escape.
"Victoria and Melbourne are key interstate markets for the region, with more than 40 per cent of interstate holiday visitors to the Sunshine Coast coming from Victoria," Mr Langdon says.
"As the cooler days set in, Melbourne and Sydney can expect to grab a bargain and fly to the Sunshine Coast for under $70, compared to over $270 in peak season.
"Flights from Adelaide and Auckland to the Sunshine Coast are not far behind with flights costing $190, compared to over $490 in peak season."
Mr Langdon says there has been an increase in flights also, which shows that there is a demand for more flights while also encouraging more visitors to the travel to the region.
"Tiger Airways has recommenced its Melbourne to Sunshine Coast schedule just before Easter this year for the first time since 2011," Mr Langdon says.
"Flights to the Sunshine Coast from Auckland will re-commence on 18 June for 17 weeks, compared to just 12 weeks last year, due to an increasing demand to fly direct rather than to Brisbane and drive 1.5 hours north to get to our great spot on the coast."
Mr Langdon says smart travellers can get much better value by just moving their holiday outside of school holidays and peak times.
"By doing this they don't have to compromise on quality or location, in fact they can even end up staying somewhere that may normally be out of their price range," Mr Langdon says.
"Just as the flight prices are going down so does accommodation pricing," Mr Langdon says.
"Our rooms that go for $425 per night in high-season that come down to $165 per night in low-season so savvy visitors can save up to 60 per cent on their accommodation."
