TRENTON, NJ, May 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) Amid the flurry of focus for a more fit America, "Let's Move" is even appealing to museums across the country to join in promoting healthier, active lifestyles.
One of the program's Official Advocates and definitely major cheerleader is Miss Amy. She has spent over two decades motivating kids to be physically fit through her interactive Fitness Rock & Roll shows that have won her A+ smiles from kids and applause from adults.
School Budgets Have Cut PE Classes
The National Association for Sport and Physical Education recently reported that barely above half the students across the country have physical education in their curriculum and the percentage goes down by high school. "While kids involved in sports have to stay in shape, that sadly leaves most of the youth population sitting on the bench," comments Miss Amy. Schools have begun to incorporate Classroom Activity Breaks that give students an outlet to burn off energy so they can concentrate better on studies.
Make Fitness A Family Thing
"Kids are under a lot of pressure these days," she goes on. "Parents tend to focus on academic success; schoolwork often leaves little time for play. With warmer weather, May is the ideal month to get outside as a family. Take a walk. Throw a ball. Play with the dog. Simple activities make a difference."
Music Does More Than Get Kids Moving
One study of over 600 boys and girls in grades one through six showed that music with movement actually helped students learn basic motor skills. Since the merger of music with fitness is Miss Amy's specialty, she has observed first-hand how, together, they also impact a child's self-confidence. "The results are very rewarding to see," she adds.
Now, in addition to continuing her music and fitness programs, she is releasing a book that provides structured movements for the five to twenty-minute Classroom Activity Breaks.
