PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 16, 2013 (Press-News.org) As a personal injury attorney at the Law Offices of Michael J. Gopin in El Paso, Texas, Michael Gopin is one professional who knows how dangerous the modern American workplace can be. He explains that within Texas--and the rest of the country--many have been speculating on current workplace safety regulations in response to the recent tragedy caused by the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion. In fact, a recent article from The Huffington Post reveals a new HuffPost/YouGov Poll that details how Americans feel about the current state of workplace safety in the nation.
The article explains, "According to the new survey, 44 percent of Americans say that current workplace safety regulations are not strict enough, compared to 26 percent who said that they are about right and seven percent who said they are too strict. [When] asked which they thought would do more to prevent another accident like the one in Texas, 52 percent of respondents said that better enforcement of existing regulations would be the most effective, while 18 percent said stricter safety regulations would be more effective."
In response to these findings, Michael J. Gopin comments, "It is very interesting that many Americans are in support of reinforcement of workplace safety regulations. These results show that there is a great amount of public interest in maintaining safe atmospheres and conditions on the job. As a personal injury attorney, I have witnessed the many issues that can compromise workplace safety and cause harm to employees; however, the fact that a large percentage of the general public is in support of tighter regulation suggests that these problems be more extensive than what is already suspected."
According to The Huffington Post "Respondents were more likely to say that the plant explosion was an unusual accident (43 percent) than a sign of a bigger problem (34 percent), but a majority also said that it was at least somewhat likely that a similar explosion could happen." Michael J. Gopin responds, "Regardless of the actual potential of danger, the West, Texas explosion showed that these incidents can happen and destroy communities. In order to prevent these problems from occurring again, regulation can help ensure that our country is taking a 'better safe than sorry' approach."
While a major disaster has prompted the public attention on workplace safety, Gopin explains that smaller incidents of personal injury on the job are fairly common. As such, Michael J. Gopin encourages any employee that has fallen victim to workplace injury to seek proper counsel through an attorney experienced with personal injury law.
