PITTSFORD, NY, May 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Orthodontic treatment is now less time consuming and more comfortable than ever before. We are proud to be in the forefront of practices in the Upstate area offering the Damon Bracket System. Dr. Terry Giangreco, Dr. Janis Preston, and Dr. Suzanne Cassata are ready to work with you to create a treatment strategy that results in an award-winning smile.
What the DBS can do for YOU
The Damon Bracket System has changed the way we can treat orthodontic patients. This revolutionary system utilizes a unique passive self-ligating bracket, and very light forces to achieve results beyond previously conceived expectations. Getting braces is an important commitment to make, and Dr. Giangreco, Dr. Preston, Dr Cassata, and Dr. Cortese are here to help every] step of the way during your orthodontic treatment experience. Remember: you're never too for orthodontic treatment.
There is a general misconception that all braces and orthodontic treatments are the same. With all the options available today, it is more important than ever to carefully select what type of braces and technology are used. The Damon System not only produces beautiful smiles and straight teeth, but allows us to enhance facial changes as well. We have never before had such an influence on the bone and soft tissues that support and surround the teeth.
How Does "Self-Ligating" Treatment Work?
Traditional orthodontic therapy involves "tying in" archwires with colored elastics. This can bind up the archwire and cause the teeth to move at a slower rate. Heavy forces must be applied to overcome inherent friction in the traditional bracket system. These heavy forces can overpower or crush the very delicate underlying blood vessels - cutting off oxygen and nutrients to the teeth and bone. This can be more painful, actually slow down tooth movement, and lengthen the time of treatment.
The Damon System takes a completely different approach. It has a patented built-in "sliding door" that holds the wire allowing the brace to move more freely to straighten your teeth. We can use very gentle pressure, working with the natural forces of the intraoral musculature. This allows the dental arches to develop within the boundaries of your individual genetic potential.

How do cold ions slide?
2013-05-25
Things not always run smoothly. It may happen, actually, that when an object slides on another, the advancement may occur through a 'stop and go' series in the characteristic manner which scientists call "stick-slip", a pervasive phenomenon at every scale, from earthquakes to daily-life objects, up to the "nano" dimension. Davide Mandelli, Andrea Vanossi and Erio Tosatti of the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste have studied the conditions in which at the nanoscopic level the switch from smooth sliding to stick-slip regime occurs, simulating ...
