The "What Drives You?" scholarship program, funded by New Mexico Jiffy Lube franchise group Lubricar, Inc., will award $4,000 worth of scholarships to two New Mexico high school students for the 2012-2013 school year.

Vanessa Romero of Mayfield High School is the winner of the Teen Driver category and will receive a $2,000 scholarship award on behalf of Jiffy Lube. Anya Rosen-Gooding of Albuquerque High School is the winner of the Drivers Ed category and will also receive a $2,000 scholarship award on behalf of Jiffy Lube.

The "What Drives You?" scholarship program is open to all teen drivers as well as students enrolled in Drivers Ed in New Mexico high schools and private driving schools.

Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay detailing what drives them now, as an opportunity to express their inner drive and ambitions.

In her winning essay, Vanessa's drive is to apply research, science and chemistry to help fight illness and become a pharmacist. Anya wrote about her drive to make a contribution to science that will make an impact on people's lives.

The scholarships are open to all students, regardless of test scores or grades, currently enrolled in any New Mexico public or private high school or driver education program. Finalists are selected throughout the school year by a Scholarship Review Committee.

Scholarship money will go directly towards secondary education, in the form of college or other qualified technical or professional program chosen by each winning student.
