Embrace Receives $100,000 Grant from Alliance Healthcare Foundation

Embrace receives $100,000 grant from Alliance Healthcare Foundation to recognize their services within the San Diego community.

2013-05-31
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 31, 2013 (Press-News.org) Embrace, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes college students to address San Diego community needs, was chosen as the recipient of a $100,000 Mission Support grant from Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF).

The Mission Support grant is awarded to provided selected organizations with funding to further their mission. It allows for the flexibility needed to address the changing environment and enables the organization to focus on the services and programs most likely to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve.

"Embrace fulfills many factors that Alliance Healthcare Foundation looks for to determine the grant recipient including leadership, quality and sustainability," said Nancy Sasaki, Alliance Healthcare Foundation's Executive Director. "More specifically, Embrace was chosen for a grant because it is advancing health and wellness for those in need, especially the vulnerable population of the homeless which is one of our strategic priority populations."

Embrace has received AHF funding on two previous occasions in the form of planning grants that allowed the organization to fine tune it's student volunteer model as it relates to delivering wellness services in the San Diego community.

"Building upon an already solid working relationship with the AHF staff, I anticipate, with their assistance, rolling out stronger, more innovative programs to better assist the community in need," Said Sean Sheppard, Founder of Embrace. "This funding will be used for program expansion, part-time positions for college students, paid internships for college students, marketing and development."

Since Embrace became incorporated in the State of California in 2003, Sheppard and his team of loyal college student volunteers have come together to help thousands of homeless veterans and civilians through programs like Ex 4 Vets, Embrace the Streets and H3: Healing our Heroes' Homes.

About Embrace

Founded in 2000, Embrace uses community service to bring diverse groups of people together to bring about social wellness in our society. The organization focuses on the utilization of college students and recent graduates to develop their leadership qualities and remedy community problems such as health disparities and homelessness on a volunteer basis. Founder Sean Sheppard's ultimate goal is to bring about legislation that makes community service mandatory for all college students that attend state funded institutions of higher education.
